Billy Clampit's Bar, "Billy's Joint" ( was the old Legends ) and The "Phoenix Showbar" have both sadly closed their doors for the last time   :'(

So: Anybody out there with money to burn, and don't mind keeping the landlords in a life of luxury, there are 2 Bars up for grabs. Fill yer boots.

Remember the old saying:  A fool and his money ....   :o

Bit harsh, I am sure they were only trying to live their dream and make a living. Don't need smug stranded pensioners getting a nice " told you so" warm feeling in their prostate  :o

Woe fair do's Just that sometimes comments on the forum can come across not as they were intended

I think hopefully we are generally all singing off the same hymn sheet and want what's best for the island we all love whether we live there or not. Next time I'm over I'll make it up to you and buy you a beer I  have a few moody AI bracelets we could sneak in and drink the bar dry ;)

Wrong location. Up stairs and hard to find for most tourists who are here for a week. Look at the Bars doing well in Caleta. All very easy to find and in the right places. Forget the AI as a problem other than the Fat family's who stay there don't move and then eat and drink themselves silly. Most other guests venture out to the local bars and restaurant's and spend money. Look at El Capitan full of people who are staying all inclusive at the Barceló. New year week was the busiest I have seen the place most nights you could not get a table in the popular restaurant's so bring on 2014.

All that, plus the fact that the two landlords that own the above locals, are known to most people who have lived here for a long time, as a pair of money grabbing Barrrstards, who don't care if you make a living or not  :'(

Having said tha Woe Kenny made it up stairs and is Aving it off down stairs now.

Business plan = Quality product, Consistancy,Service, Value for money. Even all these May not be enough if the Product is aimed at a niche Market.

We have been regular visitors (even owned) since 1997 and seen the ups and downs of Caleta and the surrounding areas. One thing I will say is that I reckon I could name about 20ish bars/restaurants that have the right business plan and are still thriving

See you all soon

Sad news. I take Ashworth's point regarding the difficulty in finding them, but, I had hoped that as each of these bars had the capability of offering a little extra on the entertainment side, they may have made it work despite this. Lots of unused units there now....3 bar units doing nothing and some at street level in the near vicinity unsuccessfully trying  to sell up. Commiserations' to both Billy C and The Phoenix - coupled with best wishes for a more agreeable future venture.

Trumpy

I spoke to Kenny he was glad to be out and is doing more work in the UK. It's a shame though as it only leaves one bar open upstairs.

That area has been in decline foir a while now and its a real shame as it has huge potential to be a busy place, downstairs was totall closed at one point and I would imagine it still is, maybe the rents are just too high at a guess.

IsThisForumStillGoingWow

I think BAR4 has opened where Phoenix was and Del Rio is there on Wednesdays. Not sure who has it now though.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and im not sure about the former .....

Trumpy

Hev,

Bar4 is on the other side of the staircase next to the other bar that closed (Billy's joint) Its owed by Pete who used to be the barmen at the Slap

IsThisForumStillGoingWow

Thanks Trumpy, we'll pop in there when we're over   :)

If it's still open  :o

By the way, at the beginning of the post, where 'appy lost his rag, I wasn't referring to Billy or Kenny, it was meant to be a subtle warning to "Future Prospective Rentees".

You know what it's like, somebody new comes over here, and they want "A Bar In Spain", and haven't done their homework, or even worked in a Bar before. These are the kind that last 2 minutes, thinking the Grass Is Greener. Just saying  8)

Trumpy

Woe thats true but it stands a chance.  Starting this week he has Skully from the Slap there for two nights a week and as Hev said Del Rio is there from 11pm on Wednesdays.

Pete is a is a good bloke and gets good support from the locals. I really wish him well.

glenys

Woe is right, the landlords charge extortionate rents but know there will be another person along to take over where the other one left. Some landlords would rather no rent than a little rent which I think is stupid in this economic climate.

Trumpy

too true Glenys. Legends moved from there because of the high rent and they sat empty for ages until the Pheonix opened.  Now there are two of the three bar area's empty up there and will proberbly be empty for quiet some time

woe10

Like I said, everybody with Bars in Caleta knows these two landlords. One is a Gypsy ( Gitano ) from Andalucia in Spain, and also owns the Blues Bar and Sixties Bar, and the other is of Asian origin who also owns Fusion 22 Restaurant and the new Delicious 365 Restaurant. Stear clear  ???

Voldermort

Some moon ago I was told that there were very good tax deals for landlords who didnt, for whatever reason, fill their properties with tenants. IF that still applies this might explain why the rents are high and they dont care if its empty or not..Might be urban legend etc..anybody know??

glenys

When we first came to Caleta in 2000 that complex was thriving and very busy with little shops underneath. How will Caleta ever thrive again if these landlords get away with charging what they like. Surely it would be better for these places to be busy and paying a reasonable rent.

zedzedeleven

It isn`t just established business premises, in Corralejo new commercial centres are being built when the existing ones are still only half full. There must be tax breaks for building them as well.
Mentor to the boneheads.

bluefox

would that be "half" full.....or....."half" empty ?   8)

Fordyventura

What is extortionate rental charge for a bar up there.Just out of curiosity.

Brightspark

Back in 2009 me and a friend were approached and offered the unit next to lins place (the small unit) in the white centre for 4300euro per month, no lie.

Sid Vicious

WANT SOME

glenys

So sorry to hear this Hev. We always go there and Rose and Mark are a fab couple. Where can I go for my mushy pea fritters, chips and gravy now !!!!!  :-[
