This campaign is taking place at the end of November

A team of vets and vet nurses will be travelling from the UK to carry out between 300 and 350 neutering operations in this one week campaign

Please help with the cost of this important event. The upkeep of the large number of Cat Cafes dotted around Caleta and elsewhere is also a major financial burden - fact nearly 30 kilos of dry cat food are distributed every week in the Caleta area by the Twinkle Trust

Most of the local hotels and complexes support The Twinkle Trust as the cat population in Caleta is now under control locally, the cats in the various establishments are clean, well fed and infestation free and receive medical treatment when required

The lady who manages La Concha in Corralejo has a few cats. She requested that people refrain from feeding them as they were primarily there to keep the vermin and `roach population under control. How do the people who put out food for cats ensure that only cats eat it and it isn`t supporting the rats?

The hotels where most of the Cat Cafes exist have pest control companies on contract - some bait traps are in obvious positions around the grounds - designed to be safe with other animals, birds and small children

Cats kill rats, often for fun! In the old days many food production plants, breweries, etc. kept cats to keep the rat and mouse population under control. My dad had an old fashioned corner shop, open from 6am to 10.30pm. We had a cat called Patch who was there to kill mice and rats - he did a good job too

The current population of ferral cats are much more healthy, disease and parasite free and are welcome where ever The Twinkle Trust are involved. Many previous civilizations, Phoenicians, Egyptians, Aztecs, Romans, etc.  that found that cats added value to the life of the population and were nutured.

As a civilisation declined the cats moved on!!

I live in the countryside, my wife would not live here without our cat 

Keeps the rats, mice and voles away, regularly get a present on the door step, sometimes even a bunny rabbit.

I thinks the twinkle trust do a great job.

Spike, why is the donations in pounds when the charity is in Fuerteventura which is a Euro currency ?

For legal reasons it is registered in the UK as a charity with The Charity Commission - the main campaigns are carried out using volunteer professional staff from the UK and Ireland. Some of the companies in the animal food business help with donations of food which is shipped at greatly reduced prices, in bulk, by one of the holiday companies

Recently some local vets have become involved with The Twinkle Trust as they have seen the enormous benefits to the wild cat population here in Fuerteventura. Recently a vets in Gran Tarajal sponsored a months campaign to neuter cats and dogs free to the unemployed or at reduced prices to those that could afford it

Another vets in Puerto are soon to do a "mini" campaign with The Twinkle Trust over a two day period to Catch, Neuter and Release local feral cats
