£10.00 Upgrade - Away from screaming babies.

GREAT IDEA
Would YOU pay not to sit next to a screaming baby on a flight? Airline lets passengers upgrade away from under 12s. Personally, I would rather them charge Parents of under 12's extra, to have their own section. Why should we have to suffer.

LOL, I know how you feel woe but as the grandmother of 5 sometimes there's not a lot you can do for them. I would rather have a section away from foul mouthed ranting violent parents.........

Mine don't either woe and regularly fly as they live abroad so I suppose their used to it. I do sometimes think the parents are more to blame than the children. I always book the quiet carriage on the train and hate it when people have loud conversations on their phones and then get annoyed when you ask them to stop.

I had the misfortune to be sat near George & Mummy on the train back from London some time ago. George was not a problem, but his mother seemed to be hell bent on demonstrating to the entire carriage what an attentive Mummy she was. A guy sat behind her put a pretend gun to his head & fired it!

I agree, the Parents can be worse.

We were on a flight to Turkey for a holiday,

Picture the scene, its a charter flight.
Mammy and her two darlings got on the flight, and Mammys sister and her little darling got on, the took up the two rows of 3 seats in a line across from each other, leaving the inside seat against the window for some poor unlucky traveller.

Anyway, before we even take off, Mammy has produced a box of Bulmers Cider (or Magners for any non Irish), and Mammys sister produces a box of Heineken and start drinking. The little darlings are all quiet and happy playing with video games, colouring books etc......

During th3 course of the flight the Mammy and her sister proceed to drink all the cans and basically get pi**ed, and roudy as a result, Oh ye I forgot there was a young guy (about 23-25 years)stuck on the inside window seat.
They start talking about going to a friends villa in Kusadassi and how they hoped there would be a jacuzzi pool, needless to say that the further into teh 4.5 hour flight the more roudy they became to the stage when they started saying if there was no jacuzzi in the pool they could generate bubbles themselves by faarrting, and proceeded to demonstrate this. The poor guy stuck in the window seat was poisoned with the smell, and no escape. He eventually got out and spent most of the flight standing at the toliets or walking up and down the aisles.

Later the stewardesses came to collect the rubbish and were handed cardboard boxes full of empty beer and cider cans, their faces were a laugh because they had never experienced this behaviour in their lives before.

As I said the little darlings were just that but the parents..........Duh

Ear pain is caused by a difference in pressure in the middle ear and the cabin of the airplane.  This occurs most often and most intensely during descent, but it can happen during take-off as well.
While most adults have Eustachian tubes that are more vertical, babies' Eustachian tubes are shorter and more horizontal.  This makes it common for fluid to be trapped in the inner ear and for the tissue to become inflamed. 
When a baby has a cold or is congested, s/he is less able to regulate pressure in the inner ear. 
Children also have larger adenoids, which are gland-like structures in the upper throat.   
Adenoids are can interfere with the opening and draining of the Eustachian tubes.

Ears aside, getting kids to sit in the same seat for hours on end is a battle against their instincts.

...and then there are the ones who just scream for attention.

As a parent I pride myself on tolerance of others' wailing children - unless I'm in their presence.

I can remember being on a flight when I was a child - and behaving less than perfectly - my grandfather gruffly told me to "Go and play outside." That shut me up.

I'm all for it though my kids have ALWAYS behaved themselves wherever they were........

We came out in July and sat amongst a family of 6 , Grand-parents,parents and two children , boy 6 and girl two . I never had a worry , you could see immediately they were a respectable family and the children behaved that way . I offered them a sweet and they asked their parents were they allowed and when told they could , both replied yes please and then thank you once they had taken one . Not a problem for the entire 4 and a bit hours .
Bring children up correctly , teach them manners and respect and they will never embarrass you and offend others .

Have to agree with yorkiecouple here..I mean ok expect them to behave on a plane but come on ! they're on holiday..kids DO get excited in swimmimg pools and they do squeal.. dont be meanies  (They even run around as well..shock horror !!!) Maybe the parents should buy them kindles and DS's and have them sit there  playing computer games  & read all holiday :p and have them sit 'nicely' on a chair (god forbid they take up a sun lounger)

Yeah, I remember getting terrible earache as a child when flying. Usually though it's down to the parents though whether kids behave or not. On our flight out, we had a family sat behind us, mum and two kids. Youngest kid was a bit of a brat, but was put in her place constantly by both the mother and older sister and reprimanded for kicking the seat in front and 'really annoying the lady'. Made me laugh when they were eating sweets and the youngest kid was told off for not wanting to share by the older sister ' as this was a horrible trait to have'.

...and kids aren't as programmable as we'd like.(thankfully).

Kids brought up in the same family, treated the same way don't always behave the same otherwise there'd be no such thing as a 'Black sheep of the family' or 'a wee bisum'.

Hev sounds like one of those "Modern" parents that let their kids do what they want, with complete disregard for others that are on "Holiday" too.

Woe I really think you need to find a place that doesn't allow children.

Kids love pools and do run about excitedly.(The running should be stopped though as it's dangerous). It can get on your tits but complaining about kids behaving like kids at a family pool would be like going to a football match and complaining that the crowd were shouting and singing with complete disregard for those who wanted a quiet afternoon watching the footy.

As my 'kids' are 35 and 36 I suppose they do do more or less as they like now, I don't seem to have the control over them that I used  to   Must take the slipper to them now and again I suppose.
I shall tell them though "No squealing around pools" though if it make you happier

They (the Airlines) should fit a cage under each wing for crying kids or whining grown ups. One,s as hard to listen to as the other.
