I'm sure that top one was taken by Captain when he first arrived on the island. That plane was an early Dan Air out of East Midlands Airport. No luggage carousel like now you just collected your own bags out of the hold and away you go. A bit like Ryanair wish to introduce now.

Well have  guess Fi look how innocent I was then and of course I am still the same!!!!!

What a great idea of picking you luggage from the plane, I have had to do this a few times in the past and certainly saves hanging about luggage hall, bring it in RA

I remember a Fuerte travelogue book type book from the early 1960s, stuffed with pix of the old inhabitants and their trades; potters and the like. Got it in Scunthorpe library in 1980 but they now tell me it was sold as old stock years ago. Wished I'd taken it on 'extended loan' Now.

Hey Danny, I had shorts, shoes and a top like that, I'll guess 1965 ish.

Couple of years ago I went to Ko Samui in Thailand and they have a square shaped conveyor system they load on at one end, and it moves around, if the case is still on at the end, it has no way of going round again so it falls on the ground and you just wade through the pile of cases.

I think there were only goat farmers here before the 60s, weren't there? Maybe a few German back-to-nature naturists. Would any of them have had cameras and/or the money to get the films processed?

They would have if I'd done it but I decided to wait for one of their regular knock-down sales - and missed it, damn it! If I could remember who the Author was I'd get a copy today.

I found the photos on a Facebook site CG. It was called Vecinos de Fuerteventura.

Nice arent they? Im a total wreck from the Physio. I feel like telling them to go easy on me.....it really hurts.

Ah well in a couple of months I should be a loose woman.

Close!   Think was 7 first communion.  So 1952.

If anyone's interested, the Fuerte travelogue written in the '60s is, I'm fairly sure, "Canary Islands: Fuerteventura", by John Mercer, an intrepid author who went on many expeditions. He actually walked and hitched his way around the Island, staying in farm houses or wherever else he could get lodgings.
I'll soon know for sure; I've ordered a secondhand copy from Abebooks, a subsidiary of Amazon. Then I'll post any photos that look interesting.

That would have been at Los Estancos, between Tetir and Puerto del Rosario. The airport at Tefia closed in 1952.
Looking at satellite pictures, what I'm guessing was the runway is still visible.

If it's the one I think it is, I will. I seem to remember it's got someone ploughing and harrowing with a mule and camel working in harness side by side, amongst other things. Caleta is just the Toston and a camel skeleton.

Hi,  i love old photos and im sure there was a very old photo of caleta harbour on the sunny Fuerteventura forum,if i remember right there was only a couple of small buildings in the pic and they looked to be around where the marina is.

YAY! my book's arrived and is as above. Seems John Mercer was born on Tenerife and his love of the islands shines through. This book was published in 1973, so the pix were probably pre 1970. It cost me only £2.45 s/h hardback in good condition + plus postage from Abebooks within 2 weeks.
The pix feature farm workers, basket makers, potters, fishermen, shepherds, etc.
He also looks at the archaeology and ancient to modern history, the ecology (mainly flora and birds), the distinct racial types still evident from previous waves of invasion and settlement (if you believe it - Genetic analysis might show some differences), the culture, landscape, population size and distribution, trade, agriculture, a good bibliography and various appendices.
All in all, a bargain.  Now to get busy with the camera and find out how to upload to this forum.
