It was a bit bizarre: we intended going to Formentera, but the travel agent misheard and booked us to Fuerteventura, as it was a fairly arbitrary choice went to Fuerteventura instead, and have been back several times.

First went to fuerte over 30 years ago and fell in love with the peace and tranquility. First stopped in Caleta, and used a bar called Captains table and there was a lovely spanish restaurant above an Italian restaurant, cant remember there names, they were on the corner before the music square, which wasnt there then. In fact there was very little across the main road where the golf courses and McD's are now, also the ocean view complexes and the beach, werent there, in my opinion vast improvements have been made, even if yo do lose a bit of the rustic charm.
Because Caleta was a bit Quiet have been visiting Corrie ever since. First stayed at Bristol Playa, where there was a bar called Partners and our fav restaurant was Fagins, if anyone remembers. Also loved stopping at a tapas bar on the main street, which is now a jewellery shop. Other fav places were Festers, christinas country Kitchen, alpha 1, The chinese rest, where Penny Lane is now,los pepes i think it was called opp Rogues.
Back then Corrie virtually stopped at Lobos Bahia. Special thanks to Caroline and Steve was Gibsons. John and Michelle Fagins and Pescys. Dave and Tracy, still grafting hard. Phil and Tina, Derek Mac, Barry and Sarah, loved the hot spot,Paula, chris and selina, and all the very friendly and hospitable ex pats who make our holidays so special.

Back in the 80's a friend of ours worked in a Travel Agents (Those brightly coloured shops - pre internet) We asked for somewhere quiet and she suggested Fuerteventura. Ended up having 16 holidays there.

Our's was a pure stroke of luck.  In April 2005 we were passing a travel agency in town and saw two weeks AI in Turkey advertised for £375 PP.  £750 for the both of us for two weeks sounded brill, so we enquired about it. The flight times were horrendous so Mrs Swordy asked if there were any similar deals for other destinations. the nice young man found us two weeks in the  Barcello Castillo for £700.  Long story short,  We fell in love with the island, people, weather and just about everything.  We've been here ten times since, SC in a lovely aparment.  The funny thing is, we'd had no intention of booking a hol when we left the house that morning.     8)

No stockings or stilletoes...too hot in July..will have to make do with flip flops and shorts  :P

fuerte crazy

We first tried Fuerte must be over 15 years ago now.  Our eldest 2 were about 3 and 6 and we all loved it.  We stayed at the Castillo Beach Vistas which were up Chipmunk near the Montecastillo Centre.  We've had some great New Years eves in Chaplins. We tried the other Canary Islands but I don't know what it was but we kept coming back to Caleta and we said if ever we were in the fortunate position of being able to have a holiday home then Caleta was the place for us.  7 years ago we fulfilled that dream and bought our little piece of paradise and haven't regretted it once.  The eldest now has a baby of her own and they came out to us at New year this year and he really benefitted from the lovely warm climate even at only 12 weeks old.  The place just caters so well for families with kids and babies.  Our middle one is now 18 and he loves the social side of Caleta and has made many friends both with owners and locals.  I keep thinking he'll get bored of coming with us but no, he's bringing a mate out with him in August.  Our youngest is 7 and he just loves the place and doesn't want to go home at the end of our holidays.  As you can see we're well and truly hooked on the place. Long may it continue !!!

When I was expecting my first child (who is 22 this year) a friend of mine who I worked with went on honeymoon to Fuerteventura (1991) and she came back saying how stunning it was etc...............but is was the name that stuck with me & when my daughter was 4 & my son 3 - I took them both over there on my own to Corralejo and have loved it ever since.............my daughter has even taken her boyfriend (last year) on holiday to Corralejo and he loved it too.

It is a lovely island that has not been spoiled....coming over again in September.....always go to Corralejo and hire a car and drive round the island......I am determined this year to go to Villa Winter.  At least I saw the ship wreck off Ajuy before it eventually sank   :(

Fab place  :D
