Ok so now the "authorities" that be in all their infinite wisdom are clamping down on those who walk their dogs across the parque natural around corralejo. Preservation and protection of these areas I am all in favour of however: what harm does a dog really do walking across what is essentially sand and a few dried up miniature bushes? No dogs allowed on the beaches either! I was also warned by the police today that people (without dogs) had to stay on the pathways and only do so if they are heading toward the RIU hotel. So the dilemma is where to exercise a dog? The feces on the streets of corralejo is disgusting and with these laws of the parque natural being enforced I can only imagine what they are going to look like in the future? Great for tourism, great for kids and great for those not looking where they are going. More barking dogs from lack of exercise = more abandoned dogs = more number two on the streets. Well done those who come up with all these laws without thinking of alternatives and consequences.

We were in Corralejo earlier this year and was disgusted by the dog  mess on the pavements. It has got worse recently and wondered why. Here in the UK dog owners are - by law- have to clean up after their pets, if they don't they get fined.

Too right, Peggy. We have to pick up here and it's transformed our village, which has no footpaths, from a pig-pen to clean enough to walk anywhere. I'm surprised they haven't done it already in the Canaries urban areas.

Same laws apply here but rarely enforced due to lack of resources. There are many dog owners here that need to exercise a dog daily for the well being of the animal. Not giving alternatives in providing areas for exercise is only going to exasperate what is already a 'messy' situation. It just seems to me that such restrictions are placed solely for the purpose of creating fines for the council who currently are so desperate for cash. The consequences are going to be so much costlier than perhaps no-one in their infinite wisdom has even considered? Tread carefully
