It´s not just the price of flights that is a problem. The last nail in the coffin is the influx of Poles and Russians coming over, All Inclusive with no money in their pockets to spend in Bars & Restaurants.
"Rich" Russians don´t come here, they go to Dubai and other luxurious places.

The Government don´t care, as long as their mates who own the hotels are happy with their beds filled. In fact, the Tourist Board are patting themselves on the back for bringing them over.
There was a party from the Town Hall in Antigua, having dinner in Nestor´s last night. One of them parked his car behind mine. A €35,000 Range Rover Evoque. Say no more.

Ryanair are fantastic.. They have changed air travel. We used to pay 300 pounds return to get here 8 years ago now My last 20 flights have averaged less than 100 pounds return. They have also made the other airlines reduce there prices. At the moment no shortage of flights coming to Fuerteventura yesterday was one of the busiest days for flights I have seen... Happy Days...

Yes, Ashworth, Fuerte will be busy with flights from England during the winter, but wait until next summer and review the situtaion then - it will not be the same as so many airlines are pulling flights for next summer and using the aircraft on alternative routes. The airlines that are flying are pricing normal folk out of their holiday - just read the flights section of the forum.

Just like the old days we used to book a holiday on Jmc and just use the flight as it was by far the cheapest way to get to fue pre RYANAIR

I know how you all feel, AL (refuse to go RA) next year are still coming in at over 1000euro for 3 for july/aug 2013 from Dublin.  Doesn't seem to be budging. But when we get there (caleta)  shop around for drink happy hours and meal prices, some great places as the Chinese buffet and El Capitans, Aberdeen etc, I know its not everyone choice but of course in the duration of the holiday we will go somewhere very nice for a steak like Nestors or Fado Rock.  Its beats staying in wet Ireland for the 2 weeks hols

Well if we took a Taxi to the airport and back at both England and Fuerteventura it would cost us £350 approx for both of us !

So to travel by air for less than £500 for both of us return is a bargain .

Having said that if we had to pay £500 for our flights we would seriously re consdier going to Fuerteventura .

Our last trip 17-31 Oct 2012 cost £350 flight £600 accomodation £150 car hire Car Park at Gatwick £90 and £400 spending while there = £1590 for the 2 of us. This is the max we would pay for 2 weeks in Fuerteventura . Increase the prices we will look elsewhere...

Ate out four times , rest was self catering . We don't drink Alcohol much and it was spent at El Caleton where the location makes us not want to leave .

You should try and book from belfast and you would find out what its like to be hoodwinked over prices

Plenty of cheap flights now available for 2013. Looks like it is going to be the best ever tourist year for Fuerteventura..Happy Days...

Flight prices are very hit and miss. Unless you get in at just the right moment you can be left with Hobson's choice. Which is how, at the tender age of 51, I am off next week on my first ever package holiday. The total deal - flight, baggage, transfers and accommodation, was less than we could get flights alone for independently. We are going room only in a 4 star hotel so will spend money out and about in the resort as always.

The dates we can get away next year are already at the £300 each level for flights alone so we will keep looking hoping for a deal but it may be that another destination will be all we can afford.

So.....(acting as Devil's Advocate now) .......if the island authorities are trying to encourage 5 star tourism, isn't that better than having empty 2/3/4/ star tourism because people like myself can't afford to get to the island and then spend what is needed to have a good holiday? Even 5 star tourists go "off piste" and spend money in the resorts generally. A little of something is better than a lot of nothing.
