This weekend is the start of celebrations on the island which celebrate the Dia de Canarias (Canarian Day) which is on Wednesday 30 May.

In local primary schools on Tuesday morning (29 May)the children sing traditional songs, do traditional dances and play traditional games. All primary school pupils dress in traditional Canarian costume.

On Saturday night there is a Baile de Taifas in Antigua - which is a Canarian dance and music celebration which starts at 21.30 and will go on through the night.

On Tuesday night(29 May) there is the very big Baile de Taifas in Puerto del Rosario. Around 10,000 people attend and all are dressed in Canarian costume. It starts at 20.00 and goes on until 6am.

We´ve got a table booked so if any forum members would like to attend then please contact me.[:)]

Wednesday 30 May is a public holiday, so schools, banks and public buildings will be closed.
