How many people on this Forum are willing to put their NIE number on a petition to try and change the current law about letting their properties out, or even just put their name on the petition for support even though it will not be included in the official count?

The petition will not be online until such a time as close to the necessary number (15,000) is reached. With that number of names the Government have no choice but to look into, but not necessarily change the current law.


There is no point in us just giving out about the law..... we need to be  willing to participate in changing it.

It will effect us all, individuals, shops, bars, restaurants, taxis, flight availability etc.



We should join forces with the other Islands. There is strength in numbers.

Power to the people......... Oh I do love this kind of thing.[]



Let Fuerteventura have a voice in the outcome.

We cant sit back and expect the people on Tenerife to do all the work for us. We need to help Janets campaign.

Hello Fiona, and thank you so much for contacting me. Yes, people anywhere can join the asociación, even those beyond Spain, let alone the Canaries. Fuerteventura residents or visitors will be more than welcome. The petition will eventually be online, and the lawyers are ensuring it will be in compliance with Spanish regulations for such legal petitions.

It is not at all necessary to be a member of ALOTCA first to sign the petition, though the reason we're not launching the petition right now is that we're trying to assess support for it by seeing how membership figures go. As soon as we get to the sort of number that makes a petition credible, we'll launch it, so the more members, the sooner the petition will go online.

I can imagine the interest in Fuerteventura - I have recently been made aware of the interest in Lanzarote as well. This is something that affects us all, and the Canaries and Canarians too if only they knew it.

Hi Fifi - I have looked at the ALOTCA membersip form - this needs to be converted to an HTML, fill in online form.  At the moment you have to download it, print it, scan it and repost it...PHEW!!! lot of work if you know how to do it, and if you don't have a scanner.....

You also need to get the other petition on-line as well, otherwise you will never achieve the required 15,000 signatures.

There is a lot of interest in this subject and with the right promotion I think the petition would easily reach its required numbers - so get it up now, and let everybody know how to find it.

Well Done ... Why dont all the people on this forum who are so uptight about holiday letting just club together and put up a sign FUERTEVENTURA NEEDS TO ATTRACT SOME ATTENTION TO ILLEGAL HOLIDAY LETS and put it on the main road, call the media to include it and MAKE SURE that the island becomes the number one target for the inspectors... Come to think of it you are dong a great job at attracting attention to the issue through this forum. IF BRAINS WERE DYNAMITE [:0]

Thinking of doing something similar but with radio and tv coverage like the last campaign I was involved in Henrik. Looking forward to helping the campaign in any way I can. I am not uptight about holiday letting. I want to be able to let my property out legally.[]

 Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are currently being Investigated by the Inspectors and there are fines being processed at the moment.

Austin, it is not necessary for everyone to join the association first. It is helpful however if they do because it  gives an indication of numbers and will speed up the process. When the Lawyers have the petition online people can add their details then if they want to.[]

Please note that the Spanish underneath the form says that you are joining the asociación, and that your details are protected by Data Protection legislation. You also have the right to correct or remove those details, and withdraw from the asociación, at any point.



PS.... I checked with Janet Anscombe and printed forms can also be sent directly to the Lawyers if anyone does not have a scanner.

The official public notice about the extension of the moritorium of Tourist licenses has been published. http://www.gobcan.es/boc/2012/093/001.html

The current ban expires this month. Instead of the usual three year rolling extension, this time the ban has only been extended until December to give themselves time to decide how best to proceed at that point.
