How to get a Fishing Liscence?

Hello,

My friend and I will be visiting Fuerteventera and Tenerife next week from Canada to do some fishing from shore. 

I've learned that a fishing licence is required, but am unsure who and what to trust online in terms of purchasing one. 

Is there any way to obtain this licence online?  We will be arriving on Saturday and want to start fishing as soon as possible as we are only there a few days.

Yes,you do need to have a fishing licence. Not able to get it online as far as I know.  You have to go in person to either the Ayuntamiento or the Cabildo in Puerto del Rosario. They keep changing where they are issued, but either building is within close walking distance of each other.. If you are arriving on Saturday, you will not be able to apply until Monday as  closed all weekend. So,if you are here just for a few days,it may not be possible or worthwhile.  My husband fishes, and has only been asked by the police once in 7 years to show his licence,when they were doing random checks. I have no idea of what fines they would impose if you do not have the licence.

The law is that you should have a licence. The Police  do occasionally do random checks ( see my post above). It is up to the individual to take a risk or not.  The procedure is quite easy and at very little cost - can't remember but just a few Euros. The pain is that you have to go into the capital to do it as there is no local office to do so.

Might be of help. Only open Monday to Friday though and morning is best to avoid Siesta.

In Rosario the bank is opposite the govt offices, and the news stand on the pedestrian precinct between them will do any photo copying you might need.
So, go to the govt office reception, plead insanity and they will fill the right form in for you. Then across the precinct to the bank to pay - it's a queue ticket system to get to a bank clerk. Then to the news stand for photo copying and then back to the govt office and they will make out your licence while you wait. Lasts 3 years and only takes c. 30 minutes to get. Only costs c. 15Euro.
To park up you'll have to all the way down onto the beach road and walk about 5 minutes back along the road and take the first turn left towards the Catholic church which is next to the govt offices on the precinct corner. Have a look at the google map of Rosario.
