You wouldn't get me on a cruise ship if you paid me. Holiday from hell. No thanks.

Would stop them dancing on your grave :D

As I said previously we enjoyed immensely, all the ports of call, but onboard time was not good.

Another liner in This morning, 1800 passengers, and 750+ crew is that 8or 9 this week?

The photo was taken in Hamburg 6/7 years ago.

Another 13 liners scheduled between now and Xmas eve. Looking good for the local economy

Good for the docking fee in the port, No good for Bars and Restaurants in Caleta & Corralejo   :o

I don't think the Bars and Restaurants in Caleta need additional Cruise visitors they  look to be doing quite well from my observations with new ones opening all the time.

If my cruise docked in Puerto De Rosario i wouldn't bother getting off the ship. Not much to see or do there from what I've seen of it. If Rotundas is the highlight, a few hours in one of the on board bars could be a better alternative.

The Oriana has been there for two days arrives 07:00 Tuesday morning, leaving for Teneriffe tonight, must be bored out of their minds, or of course they could all be Rat ars+d

Another reason not to go on  a cruise. What a number two way to spend 2 days  as much as I love Fuerte

Aidaprima in Rosario again this morning.

Built 2016 in Japan.

Has 18 decks of which 16 have cabins, there are 1653 cabins, allegedly has an onboard brewery, whether it brews beer as in English beer or lager is unclear, although a German shipping line it is British/American owned.

When I was in the Port the last time it came in there were Coaches taking passengers on Island tours,Motorbikes/Bikes being hired the place was buzzing it must be a real financial boost to businesses  when these Liners come in. Interesting to see any figures available. Not much space on the Golf courses in Caleta for them as they are already packed most days.

That would be my impression as well. Can`t understand why businesses say the ships are of little benefit to them 😁😁

I'm never convinced that cruise ships bring much revenue to local traders.  The ships are mainly AI, so passengers won't often pay to eat and drink ashore.  And there's only so many fridge magnets and saucy t-shirts you might want to buy!

The same view has just been put forward by the Chamber of Commerce in Gibraltar. Despite an increase in cruise ships there, spending is down. Their view is that the present day customers don`t have the same disposable income as in days gone by when it was less passengers but more dosh to spend. As Bedouin says mostly AI and come to have a mooch about and back on board.

It surely must make some difference. Even if they are AI they would be out & about for the day so must have lunch, coffee etc as well as the nic nacs. If you have a couple of thousand extra people in it all helps & with time constraints they probably don`t go far from PDR
I was on cruise on the QE2 about 10 years ago and one of the ports we stopped off at was Gibraltar.
It was probably the scruffiest most overpriced place I was ever in, the place was filthy, tables for example were sticky and chewing gum stuck everywhere. I checked the cost of an Acer lap top, the same model at home in Ireland was approx. â,¬20 less expensive. I checked because I was in the market for one at the time. There were lots of other over priced goods also.
Duty/tax free maybe but not rip off free. The only value seemed to be Cigs and Drink and I had no interest in either.
Maybe the passengers on the cruise liners are copping on to these robbers.
Otherwise the cruise was very enjoyable.

Very simply a high rise block of flats that floats!

P&O have some good looking ships - Aurora - for one, Cunard's Queen Mary 2 isn't too bad, but the new Queen Elizabeth is another floating blockhouse. Surprisingly, Saga's fleet seem to be the best looking!
See quite a few cruises coming down Southampton water on Saturday teatimes, starting their journey.

Not the sort of holiday we'd choose, but offer us a trial run and we'll be there and make the most of it.

btw    If you're not going 'drinks included', are you allowed to take booze back on board after the shore excursions?

Busy day in the port this morning, two liners, The container ship Moveon berthed, and the container ship Veronica off Caleta heading for Rosario, plus The Ferry still to leave, probably chaos reigns.

The port is worth a visit when these Liners are in. It is a hive of activity with locals selling there coach trips and car and bike hire firms sending people all over the Island. The Rotundas seems to benefit the most as it is an easy walk for those not wanting to tour the Island.

Ivemovedon

Sorry but I think the port is worth a miss when the liners are in. There aren't that many cafe's shops and restaurants worth talking about anyway, so having to compete with 2,500 extra people for the port's minimal facilities wouldn't be my idea of a fun day out. That includes Rotundas.

Must admit I have to agree with you, not my scene at all.

Having said that Mein Scheif 4 passed down around 19:00 heading for G. Canaria, looked an impressive sight with all its Christmas lighting.

Due in Rosario at 08:00 this morning, but currently 10:30 moored off Costa Antigua, where she has been since 08:30 this morning, nothing else other than the Mein Schiff in port, so what the problem is , or even if there is one is not apparent, but it is unusual.

Captain Sensible

According to Puerto del Rosario's Facebook page, the AidaSol has broken down.  It's currently (midday) between Caleta de Fuste and Nuevo Horizonte.  It should have docked in Puerto at 9am.

Sounds logical as it is still lying off Caleta
