There were five liners in last week, so unless there are three more scheduled, the shopkeepers will be unhappy

The AidaPrima was in last week, a really impressive looking vessel, it is only a couple of years old, and is the largest ship The Aida line have, While The Aurora if my memory serves is nearly twenty years old, and I am sure a few years ago it had a serious fire on board and was adrift in the Solent.

The Horizon is in Today, but only has 1800+ passengers, so should not be a problem, The Mein Scheif is in Gran Canaria today so will probably be in Rosario tomorrow.

Would be useful if you could buy 'mini-cruises' on these ships and go around the islands like they do in the carribean. If you don't have residents discount, flying to say, La Palma, is costly.

The issue is I think they have set itineraries, which do not allow for change, and people boarding mid cruise would necessitate there be either passenger,s disembarking to allow room for new passengers, or there being empty cabins already on board, which does not make commercial sense.
Anyway does not bother us, as we tried A med cruise some 30+ years ago mostly out of curiosity, and while we enjoyed the ability to explore different countries while in port, hated the onboard experience, { and hated is not a term I use lightly ] felt like a very upmarket floating Butlins.

We saw AidaPrima last time we were in Rosario. What a monster. Very impressive but would swap a week in a tent on Fuerte for a month on that. Never been on a cruise and they do say “don`t knock it ‘til you`ve tried it”,  but sometimes you just know.

Never been on one but would feel a bit like being in prison (don`t know what that`s like either though, lol)
I don`t like being “contained” or “controlled” so it`s Fuerte for me 😁😁

We did a Norwegian Fjords cruise last June on the Thomson Celebration, older, smaller ship and more informal than some.

It was pleasant enough, you could eat and drink when you wanted, the staff were brilliant and some nice scenery on the way.
The Captain was great, been at sea man and boy and had some good tales to tell.

I enjoyed it but wouldn't bother me if I never went on another.

I`ve never done this type of cruise, and your sentiments is exactly why I don`t want to despite the wife`s moaning about wanting to do one. I brought her on a 5 day cruise in Egypt on the Nile river exploring the east and west banks every day which was brilliant and I would highly recommend it.

The same view has just been put forward by the Chamber of Commerce in Gibraltar. Despite an increase in cruise ships there, spending is down. Their view is that the present day customers don`t have the same disposable income as in days gone by when it was less passengers but more dosh to spend.As Bedouin says mostly AI and come to have a mooch about and back on board.

It surely must make some difference. Even if they are AI they would be out & about for the day so must have lunch, coffee etc as well as the nic nacs. If you have a couple of thousand extra people in it all helps & with time constraints they probably don`t go far from PDR

Your right Spitfire. A client of mine is on a cruise that docks in Rosario on 13th December. He and his partner are meeting up for lunch and the afternoon with friends who will be on holiday in Fuerte. He has invited us along. So they alone will create the revenue from at least six lunches and they might even buy a tea towel or two.

When we were going to the usa without being in a rush, we would hop onto a cruiseship on Aruba (where we lived) for the remaining trip to Fort Lauderdale.

Many if not most of the passengers will leave the ship and go on excursion trips around the island. These will always be organised by local companies and often include a stop at a shop or bar so adding to the local ecomomy.

Totally different to Lanzarote, where there are a large number of duty shops very close to where the cruise ships berth.

I was in the Port Thurs afternoon and there were lots of passengers going back on the ships with bags full of bargains from the Rotundas. Happy days for the shops.

Aidavita In Rosario today, unusual for one to arrive on a Sunday, but only 1200+ passengers and circa 450 crew, what they will find to do on a Sunday I have no idea, or perhaps the locals will spot a business opportunity and open their businesses?

I think you're exaggerating there a bit.

So 5000 people arrive in a place full of shops selling great value bargain clothes and they are not going to buy anything!!! Take a trip next time a ship comes in see for your self.

Just back from Rosario. 2 liners in one with 3300 passengers on it. The biggest ship I have seen here. There were coaches doing Island trips,. Motorbike/Bike hires going out and taxis doing trips everywhere. The port was buzzing and lots of money being spent especially in the Rotondas which was packed. Looks like it is going to be a very Busy December.

Just back from Rosario. 2 liners in one with 3300 passengers on it. The biggest ship I have seen here. There were coaches doing Island trips,. Motorbike/Bike hires going out and taxis doing trips everywhere. The port was buzzing and lots of money being spent especially in the Rotondas which was packed. Looks like it is going to be a very Busy December.

If both those ships are anywhere near capacity there will be 4800+ passengers and 1200 crew, The Aidaprima carries 3300 passengers and 900 crew, and the Marella Dream, which is a Thompson Ship, 1500 Passengers, and 900 crew, must be close to the oldest cruise liner afloat, circa 1985, replaced the Oceanic in the 50,s, but was called something else back then.
