Watched an episode of this series earlier this week and it was from Sept. 16 so it's a new series.
The couple today have a budget of 215k apparently so this episode should prove a bit more interesting than those of late. Deso, you just beat me to it.

OMG what is wrong with the producers of that programme, is it just me or what, do they look around for the worst aspects of Fuerteventura, desolate landscapes, number two parts of the beach, villas that you would have to be slightly loopy to purchase. It was probably the worst of a bad bunch of programmes, the presenter was very nice as were the couple.

They should start off with a couple walking along flag beach at sunrise hand in hand, followed by sitting in one of the beach bars supping sangria, then a bit of night life down Corrie main drag and Rock Island bar, maybe a bit of Carnival or Kite festival. They show you nothing but some of the worst Villas on the Island, waste of air time.

Just watching it now didn't like the first house why would you want to go outside the house to go to the bathroom and overpriced at 217k. Hope they look in Caleta

I thought they showed a reasonable selection of properties. fact is there are plenty of badly designed and overpriced places for sale on the island. What did you expect from an hour long reality show aimed at a middle class audience , Buckingham palace or Windsor castle?. If they wanted some of the better villas on the island they'd have to stump up a darned sight more than 215 grand.

I always thought separate rooms off a main courtyard was a Canarian feature.

Thank you, no one has ever called me middle class. Your right though, apparently the Channel 4 website crashed with people clambering for info on the properties, it was
probably the "Prairie Grass" growing around one of the villas or maybe the joy of watching their pooches romping on the pecan, the dogs would love it.

I did say aimed at a middle class audience. I'm sure others watched it too. At 215k to spend it kind of puts those on the minimum wage out of the equation. Equally a high earner would be looking at something a little more sophisticated, ....and expensive to be honest. They liked the last one enough to put an offer in, so the property selection and price range was not completely off the radar. As has been said what they could do is spell out a little more the reality of buying abroad and show a few more of the pitfalls instead of the rose tinted retirement version.

But hey, its just a reality show designed to attract viewers, not turn them off.

I have spoken to a couple of the estate agents on Fuerter over the years who have been involved with the programme, they reckon that they don't even get a cup of tea off the production team, nothing, zero, only the prospect of a potential sale, a sale being as rare a hens teeth. I think in this case the estate agent has just banged a list together of properties that's been on their books for years, priced at around £217,000 and located in the middle of nowhere, then said here, try that lot. Lets be honest, the couple put one offer in at 26,000 euros less than the asking price, they weren't that keen really, they never increased it by one euro.

In my opinion anyone choosing and purchasing from a list of just four properties compiled by a local estate agent, all in the space of 48 hours needs their head tested.

The couple seemed very odd (even allowing for the fact he was ex-plod).  First visited last year; now convinced they wanted to sell up in UK and move permanently to Fuerteventura.  All the time, we kept hearing the same platitudes about how much the grandchildren would love this or love that.  I'm not convinced that's a good enough reason to relocate.  Do grandparents experience some sort of reality suspension?  And who's going to pay the airfares for these extended family groups to go and visit them?

A lot of good comments so far, one thing that I wonder is do they take into account tax and legal costs when discussing price and budget on 215k it could be another 21.5k

I would say no chance of that, my property was on 3 years ago and they were told nothing, neither where we, never again, we took it off the market after the show, still here now,

9 out of 10 of these people just come out for an all expense paid "Freebie".

There's something phony about the whole format which is surely more than evident when you've watched 6 1/2 million episodes. They keep raving about Corralejo as though it's still a small fishing village. It's not and has not been for c. 20 years at least. El Cotillo isn't either: when you get Smurfs piling up stones like it's some kind of art form at Faro del Gato in El Cotillo you know it's time to move on to unspoiled pastures. But Where? ..... I guess you need to work out that one for yourself.

Hit the nail on the head Waggy, spot on. Corralejo for me lost that certain undiscovered wild west feeling about it around the time the character bars closed, the likes of Alpha Bar, Stables, Panda Bar (Served the Best Draught German Beer on the Planet), Winning Post etc.  the new bars seem very bland in comparison, couples sitting staring into space, or at anybody passing. Corrie used to have some great blues festivals and New Years Eve celebrations, these have been toned right down in recent years. The main drag is classy at the top end, but teaming with tacky goods shops, electrical goods shops, zebra crossings and people stuffing their faces with doughnuts and ice cold yogurt, but it smells very nice with all the perfume shops. Cant really put my finger on it, its appeal has waned greatly for me over the past couple of years, if I feel the same next year I will be selling up and moving on, its probably an age thing, don't rip me apart to much.

Notice that they don't give figures for issues such as tax and property purchase or the practicalities like community fees!! We estimated 10% for additional costs when purchasing last year and that was about right. I'm going to love living here, but no rose tinted spectacles.

Crikey i know Corralejo has its faults but i didn't think it could cause such offence as described above. The odd smatter of dog poop has been my only complaint in the past, and that appears better now for some reason. Anyone on their way there and reading a couple of those reviews would think they were going to spend their vacation in war torn Aleppo. Bars open and close all the time not just there, and there are still a few good one's to eat and drink in. You'd be hard pushed to find anywhere in the world that hasn't changed dramatically over the last 20 years due to mass tourism. Its only going to get more crowded and more commercialised as the years move on. I'd grab a bit of time at places like El Cotillo Gran Tarajal  as quick and as much as you can because it's changing fast and won't be there even as it is now for much longer. Even once exotic places places like Bali and Thailand are on their way to candy floss and kiss me quick hats. We will all have to get used to it unfortunately.

I'm absolutely certain brits who come to live in Corralejo will love it, its still a great place, but for me personally, the feeling about the place isn't there anymore, just not sure exactly why, maybe missing the English seasons, or, when I was living one long holiday on the Island it got really boring.

Properties are being snapped up right, left and centre, Italians seem to be the main buyers, but a fair share of brits as well. I might try mainland Spain for a change, any recommendations will be very welcome.
