fishing around the north coast (not south)

Staying near Corralejo for 2 weeks in October and looking for any shore fishing information. I have my fishing licence as i was in the Island in February but a different area so any help appreciated.

The yacht harbour off the little stone jetty/pier is OK for small Bream using, basically, coarse fishing techniques. A quick rod (suitcase telescopic will do), 2-4000 series reel with any main line (I use 8lb on one spool, 30lb on the other),smallish sliding float, size 8 - 14 hook (I like 12s but it depends on the stamp of fish you're experiencing; plumb until you're 3" - 6" off the bottom and use a stiff bread paste mix as hook bait - pan integral is best.
Take a bucket (large water bottle with window cut out under the handle to admit cheap food ladle) for very watery, mushy bread groundbait - get the cheapest in the super market. You'll need about 2 loaves worth so that you can be generous over a wide area for a start and then feed to 2 rod lengths out in a concentrated area as your swim develops. You need to keep putting a scoop full of GB in every 10-15 mins or so; don't neglect this or you'll lose your swim. When you chuck your groundbait in, follow immediately with the hook bait. Weight the float to get the hook to the bottom immediately to avoid too many tiddlers and after about an hour, if all goes to plan, larger fish attracted by the fuss will replace the smaller stuff. You can then use a small catapult to get some hook-bait sized bits of bread out to your float - not too many or you'll feed them not just keep them keen - just give them a taster of your hook-bait. Size of pear-shaped hook bait should just cover the hook; too big and they will nibble it and not take it in one gulp -Bream species have very small mouths!
Keep a tight line and pull into the fish rather than strike quickly or hard - let the fish do the work. Then get them to the side as soon as you can to avoid upsetting your swim and use a telescopic, lightweight landing net. Don't forget a seat and concentrate on just the one rod to do it justice.
Look at the minimum keeper table that came with your rod licence: don't do as the locals do and take under-sized fish. A small disgorger is useful to avoid damaging what you return.
You should get several bream species and mullet, not to mention puffer fish, palometon, cabrilla and the like. It's good fun and you can get fish up to a Kilo sometimes.
Well, that's enough to be going on with and if you give it a week you'll get to be good at it and catch every session. It's OK to pick your time to fit around family matters during the day.
Lure fishing is for outside the ferry harbour wall and is best done early morning and twilight.
