We already do. El Cotillo have a steady and regular ex-pat following and I'm pleased to see that the Granny and I will be able to make 13 out of the 19 home games next season. Happy Days.

Agreed GG. Always try to catch Cotillo's home games when we are over. Usually see the same hardy gang of ex-pat residents following the light blues!
2 home games in Oct when we are over so hope to make them both (as long as she who must be obeyed allows it!).

Hi. Can anyone advise me please if there is a covered stand/area at the Cotillo ground so that you can watch a game without being sat in the sun. Thanks

Unfortunately the seating area is south facing and can be uncomfortably hot at times.  Therefore would advise you to take an umbrella.

There is no covered area. Last game I went to towards the end of last season, I was a bit early, they turned the sprinklers on to dampen the pitch, the wind was so strong that we all got a good soaking, which cooled us off for a while!

It,s my understanding that they use the sprinklers for every game, something to do with the surface and the heat, it was explained to me in a bar once but to be honest, I had stopped listening.

Using LA's link (above) to futbolaspalmas, details of the teams competng in the Preferente League this season do not show La Oliva but do show CD Teguise who La Oliva beat in the promotion play-off last season.
Does anyone know if La Oliva were actually promoted or did CD Teguise take their place for some reason?

I'm sure they were promoted but I remember hearing some guys talking about it in a bar (in Spanish so my understanding could well be faulty!). I think they said that the manager had finished after his 4 year tenure, a number of meetings had been held to discuss the future of the club and it had been decided to resign from that league.
I guess that means that CD Teguise got to take the place instead - very sad!

Tel - according to futbol.com the game this weekend is on Saturday at 12.00 noon. It looks as if it's the derby game with Union Puerto.

Maybe one of the locals can confirm the day and kick-off time.

Today's result

Cotillo 1-0 Union Puerto

So Cotillo win the derby match.

MandK - If you went, give us a brief report please.

It was a good close game, settled by an own goal by the Union keeper ( shot hit crossbar, then keepers head, then in, lol) The closest Union got to a goal was a fierce shot that hit the crossbar, but both teams had few out and out chances. Union had one sent off near the end.
In the games i have seen this season it seems strikers are in short supply on the island.

Went to the match today and the first half was closely contested with the only goal coming from a free kick that came back off the bar hitting the keeper on the back and fortunately ending up in the net.

The second half was controlled more by Puerto with some fast and skillful forwards and were very unfortunate to be denied by the same crossbar, after a tremendous volley from the edge of the box following a corner kick.  Later on after some tricky footwork by the Cotillo centre forward on the break, he was hacked down and Puerto were down to 10 men for the last 10 mins.

Considering the high temperatures and the work rate, both teams should be congratulated for a very competitive game.
