Large Black Wasp Like creature

Does anyone know what the large black wasp type creatures are, they look scary, do they sting?

Hunter wasps, also known as 'solitary wasps'. They build a small nest of mud on walls, place a paralysed caterpillar in it and lay their eggs in the caterpillar before sealing and leaving the 'nest'. Completely harmless, although caterpillars may beg to differ!

Could also be a Robber Fly..they have loud buzzy noise and not nice at all. They are also called the Assassin Fly seen them play
dead and when a fly goes near they attack with great accuracy. Horrible things, we had these visitors in Triquiviate.

We get these occasionally, is this what you have seen?

My dog runs in the house with her tail between her legs when she sees them,  as they bite her backside .

We call them Bum Biters.

we've always known these as African Bee's, any going near you not to worry just a "waft" of the hand and they fly away, completely non agresive, i guess they could sting but never heard of it even the yrs we lived in South Africa they'd be load's of them during the summer month's.
