Coast Coalition

Everybody knows, when where and how to vote on Sunday the 24th. But now the big question WHO TO VOTE FOR ?  As I told you before please dont vote in our municipality to Coalicion Canarias , now in charge and they didnt do nothing for Caleta or costa de antigua during the last 4 years.
I wouldnt vote for small partys as Nueva Fuerteventura or ANC too , very nationalistic ( canarian ) with no foreign people on their list.
The two big partys PP and PSOE , I think that they must allways listen to their big brother . If in the Cabildo or Canarian goverment they decide something here these partys are not free to decide.  So 5 out of 9 i wouldnt vote to start with. From tomorrow i will explain the other 4. Please Vote .....

Coast Coalition

9 Days left !! Wouldnt vote for Ppm too. Last time with David and Debbie they had a lot off voters from Caleta. Debbie was not allowed to do nothing and David is now number 1 with Cc. On their actual list there are no foreign people and the main man is still the Marquez of Corralejo. Dont voote Ppm but 24 go and vote. Only 3 left.  AMF  NC or APA 3 Partys with people from Caleta on their list , tomorrow more....

Well Coastal Coalition, as you are so damn knowledgeable about local politics & given that all who run this Island are as bent as a nine bob note; which bugger should I vote for in La Oliva for the least corruption?
Answers on a postcard please?  8) 8) 8)

Unlike the recent UK election which generated all sorts of arguments, condemnations, and general blood letting on here until it was deemed unacceptable, the local ones seem to be lacking a little in the interest department. I wish i knew more about the parties myself coast coalition so i could create some sort of debate. But i don't i'm afraid and apart from a couple of posts you appear to be flogging a dead horse. Try nappies or formula milk, its sure to get a resounding response.

I agree with Holierthanthou, all we're seeing is smiling, white-toothed pictures on placards.

Have any of these candidates actually said what they're going to do. or are we voting for the "whitest teeth".

Maybe Coast Coalition ( whatever that means ) could enlighten us.

Are they going to scrap All Inclusive Holidays in 2 star dumps, clarify the driving laws at roundabouts, stop wasting money on useless, unused bicycle tracks, allow dogs to be walked on non-tourist beaches, tarmac the road past my house, apply late music noise laws to all bars, be them British or Spanish etc.. etc ..

admin

I agree with holierthanthou and woe10 on this.

I need more information.

calculator

Voting time on Sunday. Here are a few stats to encourage resident foreigners to cast their vote.

Percentage of resident non-Spanish voters in each municipality:
La Oliva - 13,5%
Puerto del Rosario (my place) - 1%
Antigua - 19%
Betancuria - 13%
Tuineje - 5%
Pajara - 13,5%

So, as u can see, u have a significant voice in some locations. It doesn't matter who u vote for, just let them know that u exist.
In my case (Puerto), it's hardly worth getting out of bed. But, to compensate, I'm going to attempt to vote in the regional and parliament elections also. Maybe the thicko on the desk won't know the rules, lol.

Coast Coalition

Thanks Calculator, the most important is that everybody should and must vote to change things.
So looking honestly at all the programs i must honesyly make a difference.
The party with more people from england on their list is APA, their programm is based on The change of the coast of Antigua. But more important is that they want to invest 65 % of what we pay for local taxes in the Coast Zone.
looking at their foreign candidates whe have 2 english and one german persons, i hope first off all you all vote and second try to vote all for APA.
IMPORTANT after elections sunday 24  lets hope things change and lets be critic.
Btw you have papers from every party at home which you can use to vote, but you can also go without papers at the voting office. There you get your papers to vote
GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN.

I don't know! I have the address of the local electoral (in Corralejo) but I can't see any times on my slip. Do you have to take any ID with you? Do you get just the 1 vote and if so, is it for a party or a person?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Spike On Q

Take your passport, your name will be on the electoral role if you don't have a card
You only vote for the local authority, white envelopes containing party reps
You vote for a party, so make sure the slip you use has the party you wish to vote for at the top
Thanks to Captain Sensible, info. broadcast today on Spike Live on Canary UK radio

I fail to see the point of voting for anybody if you have no idea of their policies. A party dedicated to challenging the the big hoteliers and championing the cause of the right to private rental might go down a treat. I've no idea if one exists though.

Spike On Q

We did a piece on general party principals, PSOI has a similar outlook to Labour and PP the Conservatives (sauce - Capt Sensible,  l know it's source). Sadly there is no MONSTER Raving Lonney party and no party to represent a small minority of bloated capitalist property owning foreigners unhappy their investment isn't providing a substantial return!  Did I just say that? My apologise and I'm not sure what local party is the equivalent to the Communist Party. Power to the people!

Ivemovedon

bloated capitalist property owning foreigners?.Not the one's i've seen and know. More like property owning foreigners trying to eke out a return from their place to pay off a mortgage or just keep it running. The only bloated capitalists you will find on the island are the big hoteliers .

My apologese HTT, I didn't realise that when you took out a mortgage on a property someone else is supposed to pay it off. I paid my mortgage myself for 25 years, what a fool!

Ivemovedon

i assume you had to work to pay it off?. whoever paid your wages paid your mortgage.

Spike On Q

So HTT you are not a believer in a fair days pay for a fair days work. Please explain the basics of how you think the economy of life works.

I'm born. I work providing goods or services for which I get paid. I pay my taxes and living costs. I die.

Strangely enough HTT I paid my own wages as I was a founding director of the company I worked for. We provided a good future for the thousands of employees we employed in the business who were then also able to pay their mortgage.

or maybe we should all have been on benefits and let the government pay

Ivemovedon

Spike i've been a member of this forum long enough to know that according to you, over the years you've done every job known to man and a few others besides.

Spike On Q

Here are just a few:

Chartered Quantity Surveyor
Pro DJ
Underwater pipeline rigger
Royal Navy
Nightclub Cocktail Barman
Restaurant Manager
Marina Manager
Speciality Salesman
Area Sales Manager [Rentokil]
National Sales Manager [UK Optical]
Vice President [American Optical Corporation]
Operation Director [new optical business UK supermarket chain]

Jack of all trades, master of none!

never has a mortgage been paid up by so many benefactors....

Spike On Q

HTT  -  Still waiting to here how you think society should work without the "pay money for work done" ethic. Back to bartering, living in caves, ???? Fascinated to hear your views

Ole Man River

Spike, quick note on polling today. No you cannot vote by showing your passport. You have to be on the Electoral Roll. I used to be & now I'm not! Separate Roll for foreigners.
Have to re-apply at Town Hall. ???  8)

Not too sure what you are on about here Spike. In case you weren't aware renting a property can be hard work if its done correctly. Clients rent is your income.( What little there is after outgoings) No different to you paying off your mortgage by being employed as a cocktail waiter. Work done..mortgage paid. Is there any difference?

Spike On Q

Your right OMR  - I was presuming if you were gong to vote you would be on the electoral roll and you need to show your passport as your means of identity

Spike On Q

HTT. Most of us consider our house purchase as a private affair, a discretionary expense from our hard earned income, rent or buy?.

What you suggesting is that people buy property here as a "holiday rental business" as a method of making money. As with any business there are risks attached that should be calculated before making the investment or taking out a substantial loan. So many small businesses go bust because people don't do their homework!

Of course if you do get it right, develop a successful business and pay of the loan you end up with a pile of cash

TamaraEnLaPlaya

When and where will the results of the elections be published Spike?

Spike On Q

Not sure Tamara, we're doing a review on next week's show but I guess the local press, tv and radio are hot off the presses if you're desperate to know who now represents you

You might get the odd one makes a pile of cash but i doubt it these days. Most people are finding it toughand the new rental laws will probably make it harder. Bloated Capitalist would seem a bit insulting to me if i was one of them. Which fortunately i'm not.

Could be if you ever sell your apartment (if you haven't already ) you yourself might be regarded as one of these cash laden capitalists you seem to despise so much. But i find most of these anti captalist/entrepreneural rants always have a whiff of hypocracy about them.
