Sea Fishing .Costa Antigua.

Are there any safe places to sea fish around Costa Antigua.I have seen fishermen risking life and limb on the rocks between Caleta and Costa Antigua .The local council seem to be doing a great job around this area but they do not realise how safe fishing would attract so many visitors.

Where is your spirit of adventure? I know many people who fish from those rocks and if you know what you are doing then it is no more dangerous than driving round a Spanish roundabout. What is safe fishing anyway?

Emmi.I love sea fishing but since I retired at 65 my sense of adventure by rock climbing has gone with parts of my memory.LOL
Brightspark? I love the UK but enjoy the Fuerteventura weather.UK a nanny state ,yes.I have just bought an apartment in Costa Antigua for extended holidays .

You are right to be cautious, the waves are big! Best thing to do is to spot where the locals have a mark and go there, good way to make friends too! I know there are a few good fishing marks along the way between Costa Antigua and Caleta also further down the coast at Parque Hollandes there is good fishing and I would say the location there is less dodgy. Turn down past the big block of flats just before Prque Hollandes, coming from Caleta, and go straight down to the coast, there's a lot of local chaps ther at weekends, very friendly. The pier at Corralejo is also good. Best wishes.

The other great place which isn't so dangerous near Calata is just before you get to Las Salinas. Also, when you're done, a nice cold beer at Los Caracolitas Restaurant, overlooking the sea

It took the coastguard rescue services half an hour recently to rescue someone from 'the Steps' in front of the San Jorge hotel, Caleta. I should imagine he was pretty battered and feeling very very lucky to be alive. Speaking as an experienced rock angler, one should never underestimate the seas around any of the Canarias.
As for the deep hole at Las Salinas: last year a young local who should have known better was drowned there fishing. It's just not worth a Bonito or a few Boga to go even if it's nearly a flat calm - I speak from experience. Even a bow wave from some out of sight ship can come crashing in undetected until the last second.
Keep well up on the rocks and keep a constant eye on what's coming your way. Have a good gander at the World Sea Fishing, European board for FV fishing (mis)adventures.

Good point Waggy. I think I'm right in saying that just off Caleta by the Elba Castillo, at 6 feet offshore there is a very deep water trench, I believe it goes almost straight down for 100'. Good fishing, but I wouldn't risk it there.

Last visit, we were at a bay along the North Shore, from El Cotillo end. A few anglers along the shoreline of the headland to the east, one standing on a big rock at the end. The usual big waves breaking all around. As the day went on, the tide came in. I walked round, and there he was, completely cut off, several metres out, quite happy. As the tide turned, he stayed out there, until he was ready to leave. That's local knowledge for you.

Las Salinas is lovely I agree with Woe and if you have transport a little further down is Pozo Negro. A lot of the locals fish there and again there are a couple of nice bars for a coffee or a beverage of your choice!
Park up at Pozo head for the seas then go left across the rocks.....there isnt cliffs just rock to stroll and clamber acrosd.
