Batalla de Tamasite 2010-10-12

British pirates were defeated in this battle 273 years ago. The towns people of Tuineje have celebrated this victory for a whole week every year and they continue to do so, with verve!

This year also coincides with the towns major Romaria de San Miguel [pilgrimage] and major events will be held this week end in Tuineje and Gran Tarajal.

They don't look like Pirates to me. Pirates didn't wear Red Tunics, Johnny Depp dresses like a Pirate. He wouldn't have been beaten by a bunch of Goat Farmers.

The Romeria in Tuineje is from 5.30pm on Sat 12 Oct.

The recreation of the Battle of Tamasite is at 11am on Sun 13 Oct in Tuineje.

The You Tube clip was not filmed on the actual day BS - it is a re-enactment, they're not real pirates, they are local Tuineje people dressed up. I think the red coats are for "effect"

Well - there was a bloke there with eye make up, jewelry and dreadlocks, not sure if it was Johnny or Captain Sensible in drag [you know how he is]

The pirates were wearing their lovely red coats - super!

PS  - BS - the score Fuerteventura Farmers 273 - British Pirates 0 is a bit like the football results you see on the TV in the UK [not the number of attendees at today's function]

273 represents the number of years of battle re-enactments since the actual battle itself took place - the British have never won a re-enactment you see - it's always the famers that win

The English Redcoats of the 1740's were Soldiers, not sailors, and definately not pirates, and were too busy fighting in the New World at the time.
Somebody who was there yesterday, told me last night, that they even flew a Union Jack on the boat, and not a Skull & Cross Bones.

Of course, the farmers always win, otherwise it wouldn't be a true re-enactment. To make it even more Authentic, maybe somebody could have a word with the organizers to get it right next year.

It was nice to see a few people we knew in Gran Tarajal yesterday afternoon, to see the reinactment of the British soldiers landing on the beach at Gran Tarajal.

Thanks to Spike for taking us to the Romeria of San Migual in Tuineje yesterday evening.

Both events were very popular, with thousands attending each event.

It's all made up by the local people you know like alot of plays [but based on true facts]

I love the representation of the British in red coats carrying the Union Flag - better than a load of scruffy pirates carrying a skull and crossbones

By the way Captain we searched high and low in Tuineje last night so you could buy me a beer  -  that disguise worked!!!
