As announced in the local Magazine, "The Voice". The government have set up a website whereby people who are working legally, and paying into the system, but are digrunteled by others that are working illegally by paying nothing, or workers who are being "Ripped Off" by their employers who won't give them a contract  but are scared to say anything, or being paid on a minimum contract yet working a full shift. To ANONYMOUSLY fill in a form online, with the details, and the FRAUDSTERS will be caught. Full details in The Voice.

Oh I know several who have been working in the black for years there..great, about time too  A few couples that have their cleaning / mainenance work too. One guy even posted on here offering to do building work when in another thread he claimed not to be able to walk  and was on DLA and other UK benefits, even though they had lived here 10 years

You would be amazed at the amount of business owners who although they contract their staff and say that they are employed with full contracts that infact they are given the minimum of contracts available (the cheapest)

And the sad thing is that when people end up out of work and go to claim unemployment benefit against their contract that's the time they generally find out that they had been lied to about a full contract and either don't get a penny or get very little.

You generally find out who's been working illegally, when they have "Charity Do's" and "Raffles" to raise money for them when they need urgent hospital treatment

So does this mean when your boiler packs in or you have a leaking pipe/stuffed jacks etc, you will have to see a trades persons paper work before they start. And when you ask them are they cheating the system at three or four in the morning what answer do you think you will get ? I think there could be a few Fs and Os in it.

The guardia had a clamp down a while back on entertainers, telling them that they were responsible for contracting themselves (self employment I guess)  and that the bar owner was also responsible to ensure that the performer had relevant documents if working there, though this soon died off once the Guardia got bored and moved onto the next fad (Not throwing litter in bins during the day for example)

Try telling all the dutch, belgians etc working on property in the villages. The places would come to a standstill. Also really dislike this grassing culture. You are doing the governments work for them. Divide and rule. Spying and informing on your neighbour..sounds a bit nazi germany ish

For starters, you won't get one at that time in the morning. We all know guys who fix bloilers, burst pipes etc, who are doing it in the Black, but you won't get a proper Factura with a guarantee. A legal person is obliged to give you a proper Factura, stamped etc...

This is why any work done for your ITV must have a Factura stamped and signed by a Bona-Fide Mechanic.

Some people will keep on trying to lie as a way out – even to the point of ridiculousness. They usually just end up digging them themselves deeper into a hole."

This summer DWP investigators were asked for the strangest excuses they have heard from benefit fraudsters. Here are some of the best:

A claimant in West Lothian tried to explain her reason for falsely claiming: "I needed the money to pay for TV in each of the five bedrooms, as the kids have ADHT, and I have to keep them in."  She failed to mention the children no longer lived with her.

A Glasgow claimant tried to explain excessive income:  "Any wages under £200 are mine but any over £200 must belong to someone else."

A Bilston claimant questioned about a 'living together' fraud: "I don't know why you're interviewing me, I'm bisexual!"

In Liverpool a claimant insisted that she didn't have a relationship with a man who stayed most nights of the week. When it was pointed out that they had 3 children together in a 5-year period, she said: "We're all entitled to a one night stand aren't we?"  She was again reminded that there were three children. Her answer: "Well, a three-night stand then".

A claimant from Worcester tried to say: "It's not my partner, it's my sister."  When the investigator held up their wedding certificate, he replied: "That was a drunken mistake."

A man interviewed in Folkestone regarding a failure to declare his night-watchman job said:  "I only claim benefits during the day; what I do at night is my own business".

Another claimant from Folkestone was interviewed regarding failing to declare her partner: "He doesn't live here, he just comes every morning to collect his sandwiches and kiss me good morning before going to work".

A woman when asked why her husband's belongings were in a wardrobe in her Highgate bedroom, after failing to mention a partner in her benefit claim, said: "It's a spare wardrobe. I never look in a spare wardrobe". She pleaded guilty in court and was given a community work order for 12 months.

A Gloucester jobseeker filled in his application form and said he didn't have a partner living with him: His excuse: "It's her property so she doesn't live with me, I live with her."

In an identity fraud trial, the alleged fraudster from London claimed she was a white female depicted in photos even though her skin colour was black and suggesting her face had changed shape following a car crash.

Said a claimant from Glasgow: "You have me confused with my evil twin brother. He lives in Pakistan and visits the UK regularly."  The man had two Pakistani passports, one in his own name and the other in the identity of his 'twin'. Both passports listed all his own children. The excuse? "My brother has children born on the same dates with the same names."

"I didn't tell you about my private pension because it's private."

A North East DLA claimant asked why she claimed she was incapable of cleaning her own house when she was working as a full-time bus cleaner: "By the time I come in from work, I'm that knackered."

And finally: "It's Christmas so I should be able to keep the extra money."

You dont know the right people Woe, I dont know about Guarantee on the work over there anyway. By the way I love watching the way they bang the rubber stamp as hard as they can in any of the official offices.

It's about time the authorities clamped down on the black economy. I can't wait for the day when they decide to issue licences for people to legally rent out apts/villas.  To qualify for a licence I would imagine that you will need an inspection to ensure that you have all the safety equipment in place and that the property is deemed to be of a good standard for renting. I would imagine that you would have to supply details of your property management company, this is where the problems start.

We had a couple stay at one of our managed properties recently who enjoyed their stay however when I asked if they would return next year said "we will but we got talking to someone in the pub that has offered them a villa that they look after at a reduced price so will be going there next year". Illegals!!! the owners can afford to offer it cheaper because the illegals charge beer money to look after it.

So any of you guys who rent out your properties at the moment who are using illegal workers consider the future and consider the honest people who are paying their taxes and social security and running a legal business and consider doing everything  legally because the time will come when you will need a legal business to qualify for a licence to rent. Lanzarote I believe are already looking into legalising currently illegal holiday lets. Lets hope Fuerte follow suit.

not sure who you have the problem with. Those who rent out illegally ( which is virtually everyone) or the ones who manage the properties. Or is it both?.

People bought their properties here, including ourselves having been duped by estate agents and lawyers into thinking it was within the law to rent them out as holiday homes. All of a sudden this isn't the case. I therefore have no problems with people renting their properties as holiday lets.

What I do have a problem with is people pertaining to be property managers without being registered so therefore working illegally for a cut price as they don't pay tax or Social Security whilst legal business's find it very difficult or near damn impossible to compete. It's normally people who are retired who are in receipt of a UK pension and are willing to do the work for next to nothing to pay for their beer money.

The problem here is that those who visit the local bars always come accross one or another who 'know' more about business matters (through a 'friend of a friend') than those who run the legal businesses... we have the same problem with 'cheap' transport by 'men with vans' who somehow seem to succeed in transporting people's personal posessions (in some cases these are the Clients' worldly posessions) without a license, doing Customs' proceedures, paying taxes nor social security. Unfortunately this will always be the case... in our case until the culprit is caught, then the Clients' effects are confiscated then someone else pops up doing the same thing!

Etsy, I know loads of people cleaning Apartments and Villas and not paying taxes etc..   Winds me up knowing I've done and paid everything legal.
