Foreign tourist numbers highest since 2001

The latest foreign tourist figures for the Canaries give cause for cracking open the champagne, with the numbers for last month and the first seven months of the year the highest since 2001.
The figure for July was just under 844,000, up more than 22,000 compared to the same month last year, and brings the running total for 2013 so far to 5,853,266, the best for the period for 12 years. Britons are leading the way in the market recovery, putting paid to fears earlier in the year that the industry would suffer a decline in 2013 due to the ongoing recession in the Canaries' main markets. Sector bosses hope that business will pick up even further as of October as tour operators divert European winter holidaymakers from trouble spots such as Egypt and there is confidence that the magical 12 million tourists barrier may be broken by the end of the year.

That's ok for you to say FiFi , you can get the Champagne at a reasonable price over there. I'm sure Michael is jumping up and down with delight. He may have read it in the Mail on Sunday.

Here's to a rapid recovery, with all the bars and restaurants full and happy faces everywhere. Maybe the council will have enough money for all their maintenance projects soon, and the private sector will get busy redeveloping everywhere (without encroaching into the countryside the way they did before). Cheers!

Without wishing to put a dampener on this, I would be interested to see the comparative A/I and Self Catering individual numbers over the last few years.

Might make for interesting reading.

Looking forward to the day I tick the "One way only" box when booking flights to Fuerte. [:)]

Yes Deso, but at least their coming, I don't like AI and anyone who I have spoken to who were staying AI didn't like it either unless they went top of the range . Most people said the would be back but would be SC. Its a though one but at least it gives some employment . Before we bought our own place we came HB a couple of times. That was ok as you will go out and about and see the place and spend a few bob. We would have breakfast and lunch in the hotel then go out for the evening meal. I'm not much of a drinker so the inclusive  booze doesn't  mean anything to me so maybe I'm not the one to comment.
