Was glad I wasn't driving! Never knew Fuerteventura was so mountainous

Magoo

Done that road a few times, you just have to hope that you don't meet a tour bus coming the other way.

If you want a bum nipper, try the road to Cofete! You never know what's around the next bend

Did it on the fuerte trike and I was driving. Brilliant, missus was terrified, adrenalin rush  :P :P  :P

Did that trip a couple of times recently checking the rocks, which are exposed in the road cuts. Had to do some interesting maneuvers to get past other cars. Also tough when you need a place to park your car. Some of the hills in your pics are part of my geological mapping area. That fun will start in December. I've been warned to wear a high-viz jacket.

If you like a scary drive try the road to Morro Velosa or to Coffete  :o :o :o

Paddster

I'd rather walk it - take my own chance  :o

Nice Photo's Cllr, We make a pilgrimage to that area almost every time we are over, we just love that area. To me that's the real mostly unspoilt Fuerteventura. By the way, on another post some time ago I said I like a bit more power than you get from the "entry level" hire car for when I drive the mountains, and got shot down by the members, some of whom I note, did journey on a bus or a trike . This is where I was writing about. Its a bit of a pain changing down to 1st on some of the bends. Its worth traveling from North to South and next time go the opposite direction. Its just a wonderful trip. If you want a real trill sit on the back seat of the bus, if that's your mode of transport, and look where your butt is over on the sharp hairpin bends.

Yes the trikes good fun all right but I would love to do it in a microlite. Wont happen I think. If I could get my hands on a 172 or similar then maybe.

Driving that route in a small car is so much fun!! Tight corners, lots of gear changes, squeezy bits gets you really in touch with the road. Makes you appreciate the place so much more. Regular stops where you look back over the part you've just driven, then admire the broader view - few things better in life.
Photo 7 looking over the valley is taken from the pull in by the corner where you can hand feed the squirrels (or fat tail rats, according to your point of view) has Nipple Mountain dead centre of the image. BTW someone else pointed that out to us, it's not just our minds. Rotate the image anticlockwise and zoom in. The wonders of mother nature!

Your not supposed to feed the squirrels as they like us, are not native to Fuerteventura and have taken over from, and replaced some of the local animal and bird population. But its very hard not to when those big eyes look at you. I believe the can inflict a nasty bite if your not careful. They also make one hell of a mess in a bin if they get into it.

Mr Boo Boo

Done the trip many times only once encountered a bus coming in the opposite direction, luckily it was near the large car park (viewing area),managed to reverse back up, however first time we did it was in a Suziki Jimmy nightmare as it just didn't have any power

Mr Boo Boo

Yes have on numerous occasions had the chipmunks try to pinch my nuts   :-*

If ever you need a guide to see sights others don't see, around Pajara, in the oldest part of the Canary Islands, let me know

Only for my dearest friends here on the forum

I have driven that road a few times. I always wondered just how effective those white blocks would be in stopping an out of control vehicle from going off the edge.  :o

In this video I am driving and my mate is shooting the video. I have never known him so quiet and he was glad he was on the passenger side. Best skip to 7 minutes onwards for the interesting bit.

If you stop at the summit of the road pass between Pajara and Vega Del Rio Palma and look across the ravine you will see a blue car that didn't make it - - neither did the two German occupants!

The white blocks didn't work for them

Someone has been down to the wreck and nicked the CD player

By the way - my apartment is in Pajara - and the rent is cheap if anyone wants to experience the "real" Fuerteventura for a while

Mr Boo Boo

Spike I was just going to mention the blue car, my son first spotted it a couple of trips back......

I find the gaps on the other side more worrying, hopefully the white blocks would be supportive should something bad happen
