Fiestas de Santiago Costa Antigua (Nuevo Horizonte)

Next week will be the first Fiesta de Santiago in Costa Antigua.

The details are still being finalised, but this is an outline of the events that will take place.

All events on the fairground down by the coast unless otherwise stated.

Thursday 25th

16.00 Childrens' party with bouncy castles.

18.30 More fun for the children.

20.00 Cinema in the Costa Tropical Hotel.

21.30 Mini Disco

22.30 Music with DJ.

Friday 26th

!0.00 - 14.00 Craft Market

14.00 Asociacion de Vecinos Lunch.

16.00 Lucha Canaria. Canarian wrestling.

18.30  Rondalla. Canarian Music.

20.30  Batucada. Drum Band.

23.00  Verbana. Out door dance. # Hrs of groups then dancing to 4a.m.

Saturday 27th

!0.00 - 14.00 Craft Market

12.30 Rondalla. Canarian Music.

15.00 Cake Baking Contest.

17.00 Exhibition of 4 x 4. In the hole behind the bus stop.

20.00 Crazy Drummer Batucada.

22.00  Los Trident  Rock Music group then music to 4 a.m.

Sunday 28th.

!0.00 - 14.00 Craft Market

10.00 Enrollment for the road races.

11.00 Childrens' race. Race with Pets. 100m.

11.30  Adolescents race 800 m

12.00 Adults race 7km.

Afterwards Presentation and Barbeque in Elba Castillo Hotel.

There are a limited number of places for the barbeque. Tickets cost 6 euro and are available via the Asociacion de Vecinos.

I was out with a Forum friend recently  in Dublin. He has a place in Nuevo Horizonte and he was telling me about all of the improvements that have been made and how residents got together with their paint brushes and rollers and went out painting and decorating the area.  No Ayuntamientos or paperwork involved it seems , they just went ahead and did it. It sounds like there is a great community spirit there. Well done to all and I hope that the Fiesta is a huge success.

It's absolutely amazing what this group of people, led by their president, (Giuseppe Signorino) have achieved. I have never seen the area look so good. Here's their Facebook page which is updated daily and lists all events planned.

We went there when we were over in June as it's home to my son and grandson and I was pretty impressed with how it's looking now..loved the 'sun' on the little 'mountain' too as you drive up towards it  Had a great brek on Stoners terrace. Fantastic work being done there, will go back when we're over Sept / Oct again Some good bars there too..just makes a change from Caleta.

There has been plenty of paperwork involved and a lot of what has been done has been done by the Ayuntamiento and/or Cabildo.

There is always paperwork involved here and what has been done by the Ayuntamiento and/or Cabildo has been done because it was requested, and if necessary rerequested, by the president on behalf of the members of the association, the membership of which has reached 400.

When the people of the area have gone out to do something to improve things there has usually been between 40 and 50 volunteers.

It tends to be the same people who turn out to help, but even if you can't physically help, joining the association gives the president more clout when he asks for the things that Costa Antigua should have.

The local authority trucks etc removing the rubble have been provided by the Ayuntamiento but I would have thought it was their duty in the first place. If it wasn't for the efforts of Guiseppe and Co. nothing would have happened in the area and I think I still detect an element of jealousy in your comments. I ask again, who are you and are you one of the 40/50 people who have gone out and contributed to this cause?

I'll just check that works and edit the post.

The lorries were provided by the Cabildo. They have signs up saying the are making the area mas bonita.

I believe the area in front of Cocosol and Caleta Paraiso was the responsibility of the builder/s who built the three complexes that are below this spare ground. I'm not sure what the process was for getting it done, but it the fact that it has been done is down to Giuseppe and Co.

Other things that are being done are the responsibility of the Ayuntamiento and these things have also been done because of the work that Giuseppe has done in reminding them of their duty to the area.

I doubt a jealous person would have started a thread promoting the work done by someone they were jealous of.

I believe in giving credit where it is due and at least 95% of the credit for the success that the association is having should be given to Guiseppe.

I can't see how this thread can been seen as anything other than promoting the cause.

Some of the events for adults have been cancelled today (Thursday) as a mark of respect to those that died in the train accident just outside Santiago de Compostela.

The events for the children will go ahead.

There were one or two teething troubles, but all in all they were a great success.

Environment campaign concludes cleaning and tidying of Costa de Antigua



The Department of Environment of the City of Antigua, directed by Andres Diaz, has completed the cleaning and tidying campaign of Costa Antigua, within the plan conducts the municipal department to care for and beautify all localities, acting promptly intensively in those areas that require further deployment of human and material resources.

Municipal workers have proceeded in recent weeks to clean and remove weeds, trash, debris and other construction materials.




The streets  boulevards and promenade linking the town to Caleta de Fuste have also been cleaned as well as the clearing of vegetation on the margins of the tracks, to leave areas neat and tidy.

Thirty new bins have been distributed throughout the town and along the seafront , contributing to the improvement of environmental hygiene.

The mayor of the Environment, Andres Diaz, emphasizes the involvement of the Association of Residents of Costa Antigua to develop this initiative. "Their contribution has been essential for cleaning and beautification of the town", so opted to "continue to work with citizens who  keep  our natural environment and landscape clean with campaigns which are effective."



Diaz reminds all citizens of the town that they have a free  home collection service for bulky waste. Phone in advance 697 401 266.
