Just been having nosy round the `Fuerteventura` section of Trip Advisor and came across 5 pages of complaints about Gold Car. They seem to be regarded as the natural rivals to Orlando in their race to the bottom. Different complainants from around Europe but same story of long wait for the bus from the airport, poor customer service, less than one's image of idealised perfection cars and the `Mainland` full/empty fuel scam, not to mention being arm twisted into extra insurance cover..

The interesting thing was that most people seemed to end up with them having gone for the cheapest quote from an on line broker....oh dear...

At least Payless/Cicar/Cabrera Medina are cheaper but we dont get all the above benefits do we  :P

Just in case anyones thinking.........you have been warned

Well said Voldermort ;)

If all these clowns who keep coming back to Gold Car/ Orlando/ Hertz etc. changed to Payless, Cicar, Plus Car there would be no cars left for the rest of us, or prices would be sky high. Dont tell them, let them feck off.

Hi used to use Topcar but I want a car for 10 days and they seam to be a silly price. Espcially when you add the 3€ they extort for extra insurance.

I have never used Payless they want seam well priced but cant find any info regarding fuel policy ie is it empty to empty full to full or full to empty with a silly bill for a tank of fuel no matter how much you use.

Also does the price quoted include all insurance

Hi Trumpy

Payless/CiCar/Cabrera Medina are the same company, albeit slightly different fleets, all fairly new cars, but all come with full comprehensive insurance, no excess, free 2nd driver and you return the car with the same fuel as was in it..normally a quarter of a tank..no scams and if you want to be sure, you can also pay them in cash...

At the moment Cabrera Medina is coming out cheaper than payless but check them all. You wont go wrong

I endorse what voldermort has just said

I always use Payless or Cabrera, CICars tends to be the more expensive

I have used Payless for around 20 weeks hire each year for the past 3 or 4 years. For this coming summer their prices are considerably higher than usual so I have booked my 5 week summer hire with Cicar, who were cheapest of the 3 related companies.

For several years, we have used Gold Car, and have always been happy with the price..and the quality of their cars.  This year, we are seriously disappointed by the final amount that we were charged. Their " extras.  " are unacceptable. We'll be changing.

Libwindram

We were charged €60  for three quarters of a tank. We ran it well into the red, before spending €35 to bring the gauge back up to three quarters. I'm sure they don't pay service station prices for their petrol, Gold car are  really ripping folk off.

Never used Goldcar, so can't comment of their cars or service.

However, bearing in mind the extra time taken to get the minibus to their depot, before even starting the paperwork, as well as even more time allowance to return the car and get to the airport on time, I think it would have to be worth at least 20 euro saving on the rental price to even consider going off airport for any hire company.

Absolutely Islewing, a 4h 40min flight is long enough without an extra hour messing about at the end.

On hour last trip, when we entered the Baggage Hall I saw there was no one at the Cicar window. I went straight there and had the car keys in my pocket by the time the carousel started to turn.
Extra bonus, our bags were almost first to arrive, despite declining to pay the new Tommy Cook supplement for that privilege.

We have used cicar for over a decade, excellent service and good cars. I go to the hire desk while my wife collects the luggage, we can be out of the airport within 30 minutes of landing.
You can create an online account where your details are stored, this avoids the licence & credit card check at the pickup and saves a bit of time.
Only used Orlando once many years ago and they were terrible, number two car & number two service - stick with cicar!!
