Mountain path, Corralejo?

Finally decided today to try and walk up the mountain, the one behind Corralejo football ground. We walked past the ground, up to the roundabout at the top and did a left. The road continues up so far and then seems to be works access only (diggers, wagons etc). Does anyone know if there is a recognised path or route up the mountain and directions to where it starts?

Will try again tomorrow if anyone has any ideas.

you mean Bayuo, right? I think I know where you went, and it's a bit of a messy access. You might want to start as trans-fuerte walk starts, it's a dirt track to Lajares effectively, i.e. you sort of start circling the volcano on the right (looking from Corralejo). Then you look for paths on your left, to get you to one of the sides of the "horseshoe" of the caldera

I drew a little map, hope you can see it. I think you tried, but didn't go through, to the "lower" part of the horseshoe. try the upper one, maybe?. You will go though a bit of a strange area, where only sidewalks and streetlamps exist and nothing else

But it's more pleasant then going though the building materials storage space

Oh, yes, be careful when you go, I walked up about a month ago I think and the rains loosened up the stones on the path so that it became a almost continuous scree

Many thanks for that Tamara, much appreciated. We've been here nine months now, so thought it was about time we did it

. Yeah, we walked up that road that had the pavement and street lights (odd) and up to where the wagons and diggers are. There was a barrier that was down (you could still go past it) but we decided to turn back as we weren't sure if we were allowed to carry on walking through. Thanks for the map, I can see where we went wrong now.

The guy who ran the entertainment at Dunas Caleta (or whatever it is now called) From Motherwell area forget his name used to do an escorted walk from the hotel on Friday morning. You met in the bar and was open to non residents, just make a donation to his drinks kitty.
Maybe someone, Dee maybe!! knows if he is still doing the walk. He was very informative.

I believe that's him, Gary Johnston Smith, if you have FB http://www.facebook.com/gary.j.smith.39?ref=ts&fref=ts and he was doing the walk up till very recently

He does a slightly different route, but yes, he is very entertaining

And it's probably best to go with a group first time

Thanks Tamara! Yes Gary, loves Fuerty and telling you all about it. He is a mine of information and interesting and amusing. I would recommend joining him on a trip up the volcano.
From memory I do not think the walk was part of the hotel official entertainment and is something Gary liked doing, remember and put something in his drinks kitty.

I will say that I found it difficult going up, probably more so because I've had manflu and still have a bit of a chest infection. Coming back down was a bit treacherous at times, like Tamara said. Knackered now though. Will post some pics up later.

I must say I struggle on some bits of the path up even without a flu, but I take a lot of pics - an excellent excuse to stop for a while and have a little rest

Cannot get over the amount of greenery about. Something I have never seen on Fuerty other than likes of Tamara's and other pictures' after rain.

Yeah, all that rain in November has completely changed the landscape. It's nearly as lush as La Gomera now

Gary from Dunas Calets still leads a walk up Bayuyo. It is currently on a wednesday leaving around 10:00am. I did it with my daughter on Boxing Day

Fun until it started raining when we got to the top. As previously mentioned just put a donation in Gary's beer fund pot when you get back.
