Thefts from Fiat Pandas

Whilst on a recent visit to El Cotillo I witnesed two attempted thefts from Fiat Panda's.
One of the victims was a friend of mine and he only just avoided losing some valuable kites.
The evil swines were driving a gold Fiat Panda that made off at speed when chalenged.

Another friend had items stolen from a Fiat Panda whilst at the main kite festival near Corralejo.

When the guys spoke to the hire car companies it seems they were aware of the problem.
It would have been nice of them to warn the potential threat in advance

I hope this post serves as a warning to leave your car empty at all times.

How was the attempt made, do you know?

(Duplicate key/ forced window/bent door/plastic strapping etc)?

Yes, Hev, but it can be very difficult, especially for those going windsurfing, or even swimming - the alternative is usually to leave your belongings (including wallet?) on the beach.
We always to prefer to hide our valuables out of sight in the car rather than risk leaving an unsupervised pile on the beach which is then an open target.

Living as I do, close to a UK surfing beach, it is a common thing for thieves to target surfers' cars - they usually leave the car keys on a tyre or in the exhaust pipe.

Personally I would take a rest some yards from the car and casually bury the keys etc under a memorable rock, if taking such stuff for a swim was not an option.

I would have thought anyone with any sense wouldnt leave wallets/ money/ valuables in a car anyway.....

These wern't attempts.
The guys concerned were in the cars within seconds.
It's something to do with the drivers side lock (weak point apparently).

A number of very exclusive kites were stolen during the recent kite festival at Corrolejo.
