Transfer of Irish Jobseekers Benefit abroad

Did you know that if you are travelling to another EU country in order to look for work you can get your Jobseekers Benefits paid for 78 days. The information can be found on www.welfare.ie website. Might be of some interest to someone. Don't know if the same applies to the UK.

Transfer of jobseeker's payments abroad

If you have been getting Jobseeker's Benefit in Ireland for at least 4 weeks and wish to go to a country covered by EC Regulations to look for work, you can receive this payment abroad for up to 78 days. To obtain this you must inform the office where you 'sign-on' at least 4 weeks before you leave so that the necessary arrangements may be made in time.

In the other country you must 'sign-on' within 7 days of the date you last signed on in your local Social Welfare Office. For more information on transferring your Jobseeker's Benefit, contact EU Records Section at the address above.

annalivia yes its been going on for years  before the slump we knew a couple in fue who claimed job seekers in Ireland and worked on the lump down caleta in the bars and i could not believe they got 200 euro a month job seekers to reside in fue. No wonder Ireland are skint.

It seems like a great scheme for those who want to spend time in Spain for the summer months. Easy life. Who comes up with these ideas? How do you weed out the spongers from the genuine article? Read an article in the paper some time back which said there were only 3000 applications per year on average, it must be a well kept secret. Nearly €200 a week, I'm surprised half the country don't make a summer exodus.

Its a lovely idea for anyone who is in receipt of the allowance. Pity I dont qualify for it.

If you were from eastern Europe and worked for a short while in Ireland you would. And us gobsh1ts pick up the tab. That said a lot of Irish have a degree in in working every stunt in the book and make a good living out of it. I know of a gent who spent all his life on the dole and when he came to penision age he held a retirement party in his local.
This crack is of no help to the genuine people who are looking for work and have to jump through hoops to get some help to feed their familys and keep a roof over their heads.

Phew - Thank goodness it's the government who pays these benefits - not the hard working people of Ireland and the EU
