Hi All,

We are hoping to ship, via air two Thih Tzu doggies in about six months, to Fuerteventura from a country within the EU.

We would appreciate any advice anyone can give regarding any technicalities at the airport. The dogs will have  all the required shots, chips, passports and health certificates but its things like getting the dogs out of the airport that we are enquireing about. For instance , we presume that it is necessary to get an agent to do whatever paperwork is necessary there to secure their release. Can anyone recommend one and provide contact details.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

The Dean.

I second that re Woodside. They're simply the best.

Guess it depends on country flying from.
If uk then the animals go to the cargo building which is outside the airport in el mattoral.  When we collected out cat we didn`t needed any paperwork that I recall just had to pay a small amount of euros on collection.  Think it was 20 e something.
Good luck

Thank you all for the advice. It would be from Ireland. Think we asked woodside cargo some time back . My recollection is they were not doing animals to FUE at the time but I could be wrong. The shipper we enquired from has quoted a price but advised that it did not include local handling fee at destination. That made us think that maybe we had to get a local agent to secure the dogs release at the airport , but seems for what you are saying that is not necessary and maybe they would arrive through the terminal or the cargo building, but how would we know which..? We assume since they are shipped as cargo on Iberia via MAD , they would arrive as cargo..??

If we had to reverse the process, does anyone have experience of the process. Presumably, then we would need a local shipping agent to arrange the paperwork and shipping.  there is a possibility of taking them out as cabin had luggage to Madrid and onwards as cargo we believe.

Any further help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I think you are correct Woodside did stop handling animals some time back, I seem to recall there was an issue somewhere in the process they were not happy with, but I am pretty sure they are back on track with it now, might be worth a phone call?

I didn`t think any flights from Ireland had the suitable climatized air/pressure in the hold for pets  - though this was a number of years ago.  You can defo get pet flights from Manchester and some of the London airports, but not Liverpool.

Are u sure they can be transported by plane as short-nosed dogs are forbidden as they can't cope with the pressure. Don't know if you're dogs come in that category.

Thanks all once again for the help. Certainly Iberia take them DUB-MAD-FUE. didn't hear about suitability of aircraft holds, but seems Ryanair and Lingus by choice ( I am told ) do not do live animals to the Canaries.
I know flat faced Doggies may have some special items relating to their type Calculator, but seems ( I am told ), no problems regarding these ones.
Erik_....did you mean take them in the cabin. Seems Iberia do not allow that out of DUB but they do on the next leg from MAD,...but one of them is over the weight limit .

Has anyone on the Forum ever taken dogs back out from FUE? If so perhaps you could recommend a shipping agent ( PM me if you prefer ). The people Im speaking to seem to feel that there are no agents  ( she had a special name for them ....maybe its a special " pets " qualification ?) in the Islands. I find that hard to believe. She says they have done it , but it is necessary to get one to fly out freom Spain to organize the shipment....making the operation quite expensive.

Thanks again . Any contributions welcome.

Thanks,

Has anyone experience of going via ferry (I think the only one is Cadiz to Gran Canary )....and there via ferry to Fuerteventura.?? Cost ease of transport / Time ...I think there is a daily ferry Gran Can to FUE which is only a few hours. No idea of cost for a dog..??

Hi Dean

I am at this moment in time going through the process of getting my animals over to fuerteventura.  I will be honest i had quotes from lots of organisation and the best was from AIApets.  i spoke to a lady there called Katie Bowler she was amazing.  She researched flights and she was very responsive to my emails and calls.  i could not recommend her enough she was wonderful.  She'll tell you what you need for your dogs right down to the injections and fit to fly timing.  Give them a go.  I'm due to fly in Jan 19 so once i'm done i'll let you know how it went and ehat fees incurred when i arrive.

Good luck 8)
