Sad news. The Casanostra in Caleta has closed it's doors.
Paco has run the place since I arrived 24 yeas ago, It must be the longest running Restaurant in Caleta.
The end of an Era. Rumour has it that Indians have taken it.

Only went there twice Woe, and I must be honest it was no more than average IMHO.

DaveW

I remember when it was one of the few restaurants in Caleta, there used to be a queue down the road in the evening.

a queue down the road.
for a restaurant ?

Have you never been to Fado Steakhouse in Caleta ?

That place baffles me, we have been there 2/3 times it is OK but not great, and they want you in and out PDQ, as there are nearly always queues, which I do not understand there are more than enough equally good restaurants within 50 meteres of the place, but they still queue.

gilbeth

Casanostra went there twice and both times they tried to overcharge us.

Just the name it has I think. We went once & didn`t find it anything special !!

Guess that's just the English character then. We have witnessed it in London. The bus was old and dirty. The trip was crowded and uncomfortable. The destinations nothing special. But they still formed a queue just to get on the bus !

Not that unusual to see queues for restaurants surely

Maybe a few people waiting inside but I can`t say I have ever seen “a queue down the road” (unless the food was free, lol) 😂😂😂

These guys at Fado pi$$ me off, they seem to always want a queue outside even when tables are available. We have our place close by, W even have a residents discount card, we have gone there a number of times, seen lots of empty tables to be told they wouldn`t have a table for at least 20 mins or 1/2 hour, to eventually be given one of the empty tables, it`s also easier to get a table inside than out, seem to keep them for their friends and regulars. Personally I think the place is over rated and lives on a reputation earned many years ago.

We even formed a queue at Dunkirk to get off the beaches. The boats were old and dirty, the trip was  crowded and uncomfortable ( and dangerous ). Only plus was the destination was good old Blighty. And yet no panic no pushing, no queue jumping. Just an orderly take your turn line up. Yep that's the English character. :P

Gives good free publicity if you have a queue outside 🤣😂🤣😂

Las Meson has a queue along the street most nights and no empty tables. [Corralejo]

Why on Earth do people always seem so determined to rubbish places others so clearly enjoy?! Fado Rock in Caleta invariably has a queue forming around 07.30 pm, because people like the place. It offers a wide menu, very reasonably priced, great 'ambience' and unfailingly friendly, efficient staff. Aside from maybe Kobe, in my opinion they do the best fillet steak in Caleta. OK, we live here, we go there regularly, and we do get treated very well, but the fact it is consistently so popular speaks volumes! A strong, long-standing reputation and popularity is not accidental.

Hmmmph...that's better...rant over!

Precio ?
Like its big brother Avenida.

meggie

Yes, sure a very reasonable price for a good product, not cheap and cheerful.

Tamkid

Surely queuing in Caleta is classed as entertainment, apart from stuffing your face there's nothing else to do.

I am not knocking the place it is OK no better or worse than many others nearby, I am just baffled why anyone would Queue to eat there.
I certainly will not, when we lived in The UK we lived in Cheltenham, where there were many many restaurants of varying types and quality, some would not accept bookings, and we never ate in any of them either. when we eat out and we do fairly often  I will not queue, or turn up in the hope we can get a table.

I'm with you. We enjoy eating out and make it either a long lunch or evening out. Queues are for chippies and take aways.

Restaurants are subjective. One person thinks they are the bees knees and someone else finds them the opposite. It doesnt mean either are wrong, just that different people came away with different impressions. Some have mentioned Las Meson in Corralejo, with its cheap prices and queues. Fine, we went once and lets say, won`t be going again. On the other hand its a similar set up to Avenida, to which we do return to.

Horses for courses, what works one night maybe doesnt work everynight
I HATE computer thingyss

Out of curiosity we walked past Mesón Las Tejas last evening at about 9.00 pm
Indeed there was a (all english speaking) queue in front of the door.
We asked why they were queueing there. The answer was "good food for a good price".
Asked if the food was better than in other restaurants they answered no, but the price was lower.
Here we go again: cheap cheap  :(

meggie

Has you have such a problem with "cheap" you should have popped your head in and had a word with Pepe im sure he would have been happy to charge you double.

Wild Rover

I used Fado Rock about a month back. Steaks were good but over priced, All was rushed through, no time to enjoy the experience. I won`t rush back. El Patio next door was a far better experience and better priced. 15 was about the same price but a far better experience.I personally would not queue to get into any restaurant. If you don`t want to queue simply book a table preferably the table you want. These are my personal feelings based on experience. Maybe we could start a favourite restaurant thread for each resort, based on cheap and cheerful to fine dining!

That would only result in an overpriced cheap meal. You can get those all over Corralejo nowadays.
