Flying a dog to Fuerteventura

Hi

I am flying my dog into Fuerteventura this winter, just wanted to know if anyone had any experience of this.

Can we walk to the cargo area?
How long does the procedure in customs usually last?
How have other peoples dogs reacted to flying.

I hope someone has some knowledge

Who are you flying it with.

It's too far to walk to cargo as you cannot get from airport to cargo with using the road.  You have to come out of the airport itself and take the road heading to c-d-f, at the first roundabout turn left (3rd right turning) and then immediate left, then you follow the road parrell to the way you've just come to the cargo buildings.
You need about 30ish euros to hand as you will need to pay them there too.

Normally, as long as you are on the same flight, when you arrive to the cargo terminal your pet is waiting for you... you just pay the arrival fee of 33€ and away you go...

As long as you don't arrive just as 'cargo' take their siesta! Going back 5 years, we landed around 2.30pm and couldn't get our dog until nearly 5pm!!

Millybb - our dog was very traumatised by the whole flying process but I've heard other people say their pets didn't seem to even notice. Our dog had never been 'crated' before and had never liked sudden or loud noises so not surprising he was rather shocked. Took about 2 weeks to get over it but of course he had a new house/walks/smells to get used to as well so it was all very strange to him.

As already said and it's not siesta time it's a very quick process.
Buy your crate/box a bit in advance and encourage your dog to go in it with the door left open so that it gets used to it.

When you fly in or out of the uk pets have to fly in the hold and as manifest cargo.  Mega rip off.
There's been many petitions but to no avail.  It is just the uk as to any other European airport it is cheap and depending on the size some pets can go in the cabin.
By road pet transport is much cheaper so you could look at getting across the Chanel then pick up a flight but not many sailings or euro tunnel accept foot passengers.

Yes you can go from hull to holland though it is a long crossing.  We thought about it when we brought our cat over but decided it would be too long a trip coupled up in her carrier.  Prob better for a dog if there is an excercise area on board the ship.
