Denounced in Prosecutor's Office a high voltage tower in the BIC of Los Risquetes

The Coordinadora Montaña Tindaya has filed a complaint in the Prosecutor's Office of Fuerteventura to open an investigation into the action of the Heritage Unit of the Cabildo Insular "for allowing the installation of a high voltage tower in the Cultural Interest of the station engravings of Los Risquetes ".

This podomorphic engraving station was located in 2011 by a neighbor of Villaverde, who communicated it to the Heritage Unit of the Cabildo, accompanying them to the aforementioned station.

"Unfortunately the installation of a high-voltage tower has destroyed part of the engraving station, irreversibly altering its protection environment," the organization said.

The group emphasizes that, according to the Heritage Law of the Canary Islands, any rock engraving station is declared de facto as a Property of Cultural Interest in the category of archaeological zone. In addition, the Insular Plan contemplates the protection of a perimeter of one hundred meters from the recorded unit.

"The insular Cabildo, despite being aware of the existence of the engraving station, has allowed Red Eléctrica Española to open a track, carry out a clearing and install a turret right in the middle of Cultural Interest," said the Coordinator.

At the same time, the group criticizes that "despite having visited the engraving station, the Cabildo still does not include it in the Archaeological Chart that collects all the archaeological sites and sites of the island.

Therefore, the association has filed the corresponding complaint, requesting an investigation of what happened and the clearance of responsibilities. In addition, it has once again insisted "on the lack of interest and mismanagement of the island's historical heritage, especially on archaeological heritage, by those who should be the first to ensure the protection, study and dissemination of our most precious indigenous legacy. "

"So far this year the Tindaya Mountain deposits, the Sun of Tejuate and the rock engraving station of Los Risquetes have been damaged, some irreversibly, by the abandonment of functions and the lack of surveillance and custody by the Ministry of Culture and Heritage of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, "they conclude.
