Has anyone changed anything other than UK Pounds via the shops in Caleta? The pound rate is usually OK. If the dollar rate is as good, I can avoid a double exchange.

My son wanted to change dollars to euros last year.  The only way he could do was to pay into our spanish bank and we drew out in euros.   They would not let him exchange direct as he wasn't a customer.

In other words, you need a bank account. It's the bank's way of keeping tabs on money laundering.

Thanks for the replies. Not what I was hoping for , but it gave me the chance to exchange here in the UK before I return. I have a Bankia account, but, no doubt their charges and exchange rate would have taken a chunk out of the settlement. In case anyone else has a similar situation,  I used Thomas Exchange in London in the end - good rate & sterling credited to my UK account next working day- would recommend.
