Totally agree KWC, but it is also excellent PR for the insurance companies to hike our policies up even further.

I once put a claim in for money I had stolen abroad, they wanted every piece of evidence relating to my trip including my boarding pass stub, it was a long drawn out affair. Please don't tell me its because of people like the scammers, its pure greed on behalf of the insurance companies. My car insurance has just went up by a third, I have never made a claim for 14 years, they get away with more than the scammers ever will.

I agree it is prob not e55million, but this fraud was on a massive scale right across the mainland and holiday islands.
Cuatro ran a really good programme on it a few months back. The local reporter flew to the UK and tracked down some claimants.
She doorstepped them and wouldn't give up! One was a Butcher who she tried to interview in his shop, then outside later - one woman she followed down the street. Brilliant.
The scammers also recruited a Brit in Tenerife as a 'salesman' and bought an Ambulance that was made to look 'official'. The TV tracked this guy down, as well.
Bottomline. The reporter went to a Centro Salud and asked how many records they had of food poisoning and the guy said if one hotel had a problem, they would be the first to know.
