hi folks i have shown some interest in buying a property with a spanish estate agent they have asked for my details and DNI number i gather this is some sort of ID number do we have to apply for this to proceed .also how long dose it last if we apply for it if we dont buy this year it will be next year  thanks

A DNI is a Spanish nationals Tax/ID number so it looks like they are either assuming you are Spanish or their paper work asks for DNI.

If you are buying property as a non resident, your lawyer or whoever is handling the purchase on your behalf would apply for an NIE number. This is the number for non Spanish persons and registers you in the 'system'.

Let them know you are non resident and they should then be able to point you in the right direction.

A word of advice, don't use a lawyer as suggested by the agent. There are plenty of recommendations on here if you need one.

Good luck.   :D
