Residencia rules for buying a car or quad

Hi.  Does anyone know whether you need to have official residencia status to buy a car or quad? Or is it sufficient just to own a house on the island  and have an NEI number?

NIE number alone is sufficient

This is another one of those 'rules' that depends on who you deal with and what day you deal with them.

Quite a few on here have mentioned that they also required a Padron when they bought cars.

Maybe we should set up a poll?

I bought mine when I had been on The Island 3 weeks, The Dealer hired it to me until mi NIE came through abot 2 months later then deducted "The hire charge" from the sale price

I needed Empadron when I bought from Orvecame...Thy would not sell me the car without it. However I believe that others such as Aboutcars only require NIE.
So....a bit confusing?
