Hi
I am on the Spanish Health system here on Fuerte, and have just got myself a prescription for my medications that lasts (I think) for the next six months.
Each item on the prescription ends with indefinido; what does that mean?
Also, can I take this prescription to the pharmacy once a month for six months, or just when I run out of,say, one the items?
Sorry, but I'm a bit new to all this ;hopefully someone who is also on the system can find answers to my questions.
Thanks

Indefinado = indefinitely

you need to work out your dosage and quantity prescribed example 1 every 12 hours and 60 prescribed means you can renew every 30 days or 1 every 2 days and  60 prescribed  again every 30 days, They have a linked computer system so which ever Farmacia you go to they know when each item was last dispensed and they will not dispense more until it is due.

Why not visit one of the Pharmacy's and ask them. I find the guy and the girl in the airport pharmacy very helpful and speak perfect English. They might help you calculate when you need to renew. Alternatively you could buy a number of weekly dispensing boxes and fill them up to work from.

The system is very efficient but also a bit of a pain. I have 3 different items on repeat prescription (indefinado) and the quantities supplied last 10 days, 28 days and 30 days respectively. I asked my doctor to increase the 10 day prescription but he said it was the max that could be prescribed at one time for that particular drug.
However, the pharmacy that I use was quite happy to sell me some extra packets of each of my drugs (off prescription, full cost if normally discounted) and this has given me a little cushion, useful for holidays etc.
Otherwise I just call in each week, they scan the barcodes and issue me with whatever is due.
Don't forget to diarise to make yourself an appointment to see your doctor to renew your repeat prescriptions, the system won't allow your prescription form to be used even one day past its 'sell by' date!
Did you know that you can make your doctor appointments online? http://www3.gobiernodecanarias.org/citasalud/citaprevia.aspx
