Was down there this morning, it looks good now, could do with a grader over it to even it out, but i doubt there is that kind of machine on The Island.

They may have one at the golf course that they use for machine raking the bunkers

I was there this afternoon, looks good to me. No smells. Only thing I was cross about was the amount of cigarette butts left by people. I am not knocking smokers, as I am one of them, but it is not hard to pop the butts in a small bag and pop them in a bin, is it?

I doubt it John, the machine I am thinking of his a huge thing used to level large areas e.g. Football pitches before re turfing etc

Just been along Caleta prom and the Beach looks fantastic. Well done to all involved. A long complex project probably over budget and 6 months late but that is life it happens in the UK all the time. We now have a fantastic beach that will not flood with the big tides and it will be loved by the many tourists who come to this Island.

The beach is open.  All the fencing is down and the machinery is off the beach.

It's still to be finished off with facilities but at least it's open before April!

We went to Caleta yesterday and had a look at this much talked about beach. Well what can I say? As a beach it's not a bad temporary car park! That sand is not beach sand, it's unwashed sharp/building sand at best and I used better stuff to set the paviors in my drive at home.
Surely that was not the sand specified in the contract?
We lasted 20 mins on it. It was uncomfortable to walk on and impossible to lay on. It was rock hard especially down near the water's edge where it had consolidated.
We went over to the little sandy bit by The Goriones Suites where the golden sands of the  Atlantico stretch begins. Throughout the day people were commenting on the transition from proper golden sand to the grey grit. Was The Atlantico bit also part of the contract? If so why didn't they use the same sand?
What summed things up for us was when we were sitting on a bench at the Barcelo end watching thecsun go down and a little girl ran down the boardwalk and onto the 'beach'. She'd gone about 5 metres then started screaming "daddy the beach is cutting my feet!"
Mrs JJ has always said that the landscape of Fuerteventura reminds her of that old Western series called The High Chapperal. After yesterday she has a Western name for Caleta Beach: True Grit!
Sorry to be so negative as a lot of people have waited a long time for the beach to be refurbished. It's such a shame that so poor a job has been carried out.

The problem was that the Spanish Costas Dept, who were responsible for the beach regeneration, had trouble sourcing the sand.
In the end they used sand off the seabed in Puerto del Rosario, and the same sand has been used to replenish and expand the Playa de Los Pozos in the capital.

I walked across the beach today, and I felt sad that the golden sand has been lost.  Hopefully, all those who moaned about the rocks that used to be at the mid to low tide mark will be happy

A beach volleyball tournament is being held next week on the beach.  Two new courts are being constructed and different sand is being used so they can play the games.

The golden sand in front of the Atlantico Centre was imported for the man-made beaches there about 15 years ago. That was financed by private money from the Anjoca group who built the golf corse, Atlantico Center and hotels in that area.
