Which car rental company lets you go from Fuerte to Lanzarote?

erik_tonny

Depends, if you promise to take the ferry, try Cicar

Snowdrop

Probably cheaper if you go as foot passengers and hire a car from the boat terminal maybe

I think most of the big companies allow you to drive on Lanzarote but you should ask at the time of booking. it has been a few years since i asked and then they told me the car would not be insured whilst it was on the ferry so if you have to swim for it take the car with you ;D

Cicar are the only ones who will let you take a car over on the ferry, however it must be returned to the original Island. That said the cost of taking it over is very high and much cheaper to hire one on arrival in Playa Blanca, although Cicar, who have an office at the dock there, now insist on a minimum of either 2 or 3 days hire..

So you pays your money and takes your chance

Anyone else considering going off the island in a hire car might be interested in a recent experience of mine:
In December, I had a day over on Gran Canaria using the Fred Olsen Express from Moro Jable.
I'd rented a small Jeep for a few days from Autos Soto (via their desk in the Fuerteventura Princess).
When I asked about taking their vehicles off-island, they confirmed that it would be OK and that the same breakdown number would apply.
Might do the trip again some day. I'd give the east and the south a miss next time, but the mountain scenery in the centre was fabulous.
Many many years ago on Tenerife (before I fell in love with Fuerte'), I took a hire car over to La Gomera. At that time, I was told I'd be legal, but if I broke down .... I'd be on my own.
PS: I wish posters would include a clue re their post's subject in the Subject Title!
