Can anyone who visits Happy Plants next, find out what prices are of spindle and bottle palms ? and how big they are ?  What size can you get for 80 euros ? On line have no list or prices ??

Hi Island Beach - can't comment on specific plants but based on our experience earlier this year the price varies on the size / maturity of the plant, so I think it best you go and see them for yourself.

The plants in the pictures of our back border cost a total of 301.50â,¬ and in that the Yuccas, one in each corner / end, were 65â,¬ each

Did you buy the date palms there ? Have you grown any fruit trees? Seems yucca  not cheap. You ever tried growing coconut palm ? Was told when visiting oasis wild life park they can grow there

Hi again Island Beach, this year is our first year of property ownership so not really sure of the plant growing on Fuerteventura. We bought all the plants at Happy Plants, The Nolina or Elephants Foot Palmas we call it was 21â,¬.

Not sure of the coconut palm.

Hope that helps

After quite a few failures on very bad soil, we were advised to try the experimental farm garden centre at Pozo Negro, just by the turning off the main road, where they hold the Feaga.  The centre can be a bit daunting - no signs or prices and they speak no English, and many of the plants on show are not yet for sale, but the big advantage is that they only sell plants that will thrive in the local climate, and they are very cheap indeed. Certainly every plant we have bought there has flourished, even in our rocky garden. Gird you loins and give it a look.

So your first year.  How have you found the cost of living over there ? Anyone over there who sells fitted new kitchens ?     I was told if you ask locals no fruit trees grow.  Yet on forum people growing soursop. Mango etc

No!! There's usually a campaign each year in November to disburse either 5 or 10 ornamental and indigineous plants per person (eg. palms, tabaibas, wild olive trees, dragos, etc.). It's open to abuse.

No mention of it this year. We no longer need any so won't attend. But in recent years it has turned into a bit of a smash and grab, particularly with certain foreign nationalities.

Granja in Pozo, where we sourced most of our fruit trees do a campaign around May, to sell at cost, various fruit trees. They claim to adapt the trees for FUE, but that's total bossocks. They buy a container of trees from Valencia and sell, as is.

Anything of "value" like pineapples or papayas that they develope at the farm are reserved for the friends and relatives!!.

So where do people go to get free plants ? Sounds like a rush in the Jan sales

Wait for a published notice from Cabildo or in the usual online newspapers.

Noramlly it would have happened by now. So maybe not this year. Generally, they don't shout from the rooftops.

As for Granja in Pozo, the trees grow; I just don't like the impression given, that they adapt them to FUE soil/climate, etc.

I think Calculator has better advice as far as plants are concerned.

With regards to the cost of living so far we have found it so much better than the UK apart from imported fresh fruit and veg which we understand, we have however been told about a good fruit and veg store on the estate where IKEA are that is much more reasonable in price, which demonstrates you do have to shop around. Things like petrol are cheaper as are things like water and council rates and rubbish collection.

You know of price of fitted kitchens ? Here in UK at home it's possible to get a 8 unit kitchen for under £,1,000

Sorry can't help there, Ideal in RDR  have them and there is a kitchen shop in the block behind the petrol station next to IKEA.
