Are there any other scooter enthusiasts living on the Island?
Real scooters, Lambretta, Vespa or modern versions?

On my rides around the island i have seen a few about and i know a couple of Italians in Corralejo own.

If there is any out there, it would be good to get together.

Isle of Wight Scooter Rally every August Bank Holiday - over Five Thousand scooters came over this year.

You should see the ride-out. Most of the visitors as well as a lot of the couple of hundred local ones!!
Even we tag in with the Quad, Sue riding, me messing about on pillion for around 10-12 miles.
The Legion Riders Biker group marshalling, not a police car in sight.

Ahhh -the gentle haze of two-stroke is clearing now.

Magoo -  AA & RAC send extra vans over specially. The roads get littered with dead Lambrettas & Vespas, not all have left for home yet, awaiting parts.
btw - I had a GS160 with 7ft high mirrors in my younger days. Prefer bigger wheels now, though.

Ohhhhh we know all about the IOW, and Brighton had a great ride out the same weekend.

As for the wrong island, oh i dont think so, just come for a ride up the mountains one day (that dont sound right lol) All that is missing is the few on this lovely island getting together.

Good live music, now that i miss and have to pop back to get my fix.

I bought my first Lambretta LI 150 in 1966 and I sold my Canary Yellow GP200 just before I moved here. I was in Wootton Creak on my boat one August Bank  Holiday. The Fishbourne ferry arrived at 7am and it looked empty, no lorries, coaches or cars. All of a sudden a huge cloud of two stroke exhaust appeared and the sound of 200 plus scooter broke through the quiet Isle of Wight morning. It reminded me of Sunday in Stratford on Avon when all the Midland mods gathered, not your 70's scooterists but the genuine 1966 Mod article. Great times, I'd love another scoot, and I'll ride with you but on my 250cc Yammy Dragstar. We had a Mod reunion in Banbury earlier this year, we're all in our 60's and 70's now, but put a James Brown  record on and we can still do it!

PS I live in Tuineje so we could meet at mine, ride the mountain roads to La Pared or Betancuria and back home for a barbie - I can even provide the music we played on "The GAFF" radio for the reunion weekend if you fancy a bit of genuine 60's Soul, Motown and Blue Beat. Sorry, no Northern Soul, that came much later, us Mods were Hippies by then!

We could match the bikers here and raise some money for charities. Let's do it!

Credit to you Spike, you know your subject, my lasting memory of the Mods and Rockers era was from Margate, I was down for a weekend many years ago with a friend,  I witnessed a scrap between Mods and Rockers on the sea front, when the police eventually intervened a gang of the MODS scattered into the Bar we were in, after a while they started to sing "Ten Green Bottles sitting on a Wall", seemed very strange and funny at the time, specially after the scrapping, happy days. We slept under the pier and got covered in Flea bites.

The Lambretta was in a sorry state of repair, but as I was not legally old enough to drive it on the road I lovingly restored it by stripping down to it's skeleton frame and spaying all panels.
When I finally got my Lambretta on the road I soon discovered it didn't have the best of road holding with those small wheels, but if got me up and mobile.
I had the scooter for a year and sold it for the price I paid for it.
Occasionally I look on eBay to buy another to restore but even ones in very bad condition can cost an arm and a leg.
I've enjoyed reading this thread it had brought back fond memories.

They have a couple of old restored scooters in the antique vehicle display in the Old Tomato warehouse in Gran Tarajal. Vespa's I think. I would post the photos, if I could, but can't make it work from my Samsung Tablet!
Maybe I could email them to someone, if interested.

My first was an old LI 125 (150 in reality) , loved it , it was like a girl you loved at school but she kept kicking you in the roughly spherical containers. I was hooked.
I am an old mod,(well not that old) not a scooter enthusiast (big difference) and the only realistic and practical scooters to ride over here are a modern "replica"  , believe me, there are some crackers. It might upset the enthusiast elite but its style and reliability for me...

Last time I was there it was open 10 to 2pm, but not everyday. I think closed Monday. But winter opening may have reduced these hours. They just got another injection of cash from the Cabildo so the enthusiasts can keep it running.
I'll take another look next week and update here.

Any Sunday between now and mid November, coffee at 10.30,  leave Tuineje about 11am, lunch at 1pm.
