Beetroot juice

Is this available anywhere on the island? A search of jugo de remolacha gives lots of recipes but no sign of cartons of the stuff and I've never seen it in the supermarkets.

For obvious reasons, I'm a bit reticent about putting it in luggage in case of a bit of rough handling

Try Googling for zumo. They used jugo where we stayed in Mexico but I've only ever heard zumo here. Looks like you can get it in one 'eco' place.

Shame it isn't as widely consumed as it seems to be back home, where every supermarket has a litre of it for about â,¬1.50

But you can buy cooked beetroot in all supermarkets. And raw aren't difficult to find. There are a couple of greengrocers in Corralejo that sell it raw. Some in my garden too . Lovely stuff to eat but I've never considered drinking it.

One of the very few things I will not eat, whilst there are many things i am not over keen on,beetroot I absolutely detest, when I ran superstores if a staff member broke a jar on the shop floor it was tantamount to a hanging offnce

I like it - for me it is delicious.  You may be able to buy it in one of the two "health shops" in Puerto del Rosario. The one near the 3 bums roundabout is very well stocked and also sell organic raw vegetables. So may do the juice.

Jugo is Mexican Spanish.  Zumo is the pure juice. Whereas the "cheap" version which some bars sell, is Nectar. Which is 40% - 50% water.

Probably get Beetroot Juice in Healthfood shops. There's a few in Rosario, but not cheap. There's a good one on the main road just past Rotundas, before you get to the Red Cross. They have organic fruit and veg also.

I could eat beetroot and brussels on their own, but pure Beetroot juice is an acquired taste, add apple juice to make it just doable
