I have pictures of the American Star taken in December 2015 but I cannot work out how to upload them from my hard drive.  Can someone explain how to do this?

All the help says "A Photo from your Hard Drive.
You can upload photos to this site using the Media section. For each pic you upload, you'll be given an address which you can use to include pictures in your posts."
I cannot even find the Media section.

had the same problem a few months ago, and someone said you cannot upload directly, I looked for the media section also, failed to find it, and gave up

The only reliable way to put photos on this forum is to use a host page like Photobucket, then you need to get the Http address and paste this between the brackets with the word 'img' in the first and '/img' in the second that you get when you click the Mona Lisa button above

This site needs an administrator, an active Moderator and an overhaul.
it needs a moderator because you don't know how to paste a URL on a forum?

Try reading my post properly - I said upload photo from my hard drive.  You invented the URL.  Oh dear what a short memory you have. :P

Easy Peasy ...  You don't have to download an image program.
Just go to tinypic.com  it's free. The first picture will come up.
Choose the file off your drive and click on Upload Now.
Sometimes you will have to fill in one of those Captcha things, Picture number two will come up.
Click on where it says Forums and Message Boards. When it is black, copy and paste it into your post.
I always highlight them and centre them Done.

Have you tried right clicking on the pic, then click image location, the  go to the little bit top left hand (kinda 2 commas, underneath where it says Font size) click that then paste your image location in there.

1. Forum picture uploads require 3 directory's, 1 for your picture, 1 for a thumbnail of your picture and 1 for a optimised version of your picture.

2. Taking into account of the above, that requires a huge amount of space (3x1 of every picture uploaded) meaning a huge injection of cash for server space + performance. This is feasible if the forum only has a couple of hundred members, this forum has 14,797!

3. Uploading any content to a server leaves it wide open to attack (you may want the chances of your email and password being obtained increased, but me and many others don't)

4. Uploading to a third party is an EASY option and requires very little user input, it also increases page load time for every user of the forum as they aren't relying on this forums one server to deliver multiple images to multiple users at any 1 time.

5. Stop whining.

Well I did try to keep it simple.
I think #5 drives it home in layman's terms to be fair  ;D

This site is supposed to handle uploading pictures from one's hard drive but it does not give instructions - poor.  The site as a whole is incomplete.  Those of you who chose to exercise cyber bully tactics can only do so because the site has no Moderator.  I had one nice pm message from one member telling me to ignore the bullies.  All this grew from a simple question about uploading pictures.  I find it very odd that things can drift so easily/get out of hand.

MalT

I wouldn't worry about it, got lost half way through instructions, obviously need to go back to my care home😎

caballo hambriento, sorry you're getting some stick, but anyway, did you try my solution. I have used other methods, but find this the easiest, and no pictures are saved on 3rd party image programs such as Photobucket, for all to see.

In the end I uploaded stills to Youtube and created a very short video which gave a nicer result than mere stills.  Thanks for your constructive suggestion.  Thanks to all who made constructive suggestions.  If things can drift so badly on a topic like this I suppose it is worse on a more controversial one.  I do not read the latter sort on this site = boring.

I actually loaded up the pictures to YouTube and created a very short video from them which was nicer than mere stills.  More difficult to do than your suggestion but I can live with that.

SMF forums (the software that this forum uses) "offers" administrators the option of allowing users to upload pictures.
Just because admin chooses not to use it doesn't make the site incomplete.

el caballo hambriento

There are other ommissions that make this site incomplete but I am not getting into a discussion about it.  I tried before but the thread just deteriorated but not as badly as this one.  At least the peeps on it were courteous and pleasant.

Brightspark

To be honest all I've seen you do on this forum is moan about it.
So if you are wondering why you are getting a frosty reception from myself and a few others for moaning yet again then look no further than your last few posts.
No one is "cyber bullying", and if you think they are then I suggest you grow a backbone.

Google is your friend by the way, go ask it a question and most likely you will find you're answer.
Try with:
"How do I add a picture to a forum via URL?".

1. Pay attention.  You do not read posts correctly.  I said I wanted to upload pictures from my hard drive, not via a URL but this badly organised site does not bother to provide decent instructions.  I also explained how I had uploaded my pictures
2. My posts are mostly asking questions or giving information and definitely are not to do with moaning etc
3. Looking over your posts you appear to be disgruntled and cynical especially over Brexit and politics - that is putting it nicely.  I can see why you revert to tactics like cyber bullying.  Not a nice forum board persona.

I began this thread by asking a simple question. I asked for some help.  Thanks to all those who gave me helpful answers either on the bb or via pm.     It is ridiculous that something so innocent could become so prolific in terms of view numbers :(

I voted to leave the corrupt EU lmfao

May I suggest you go on a computer course somewhere.

Sounds like you really need it!

And again as you have been told by Can the Man on the 3rd post.

The only way you can add pictures to this forum is via a third party host and attaching a url to your post.

The help section on this forum relates to the "media" section of the forum which was removed about 2 years ago because it caused the forum to become unstable and crashed it.

Do.you.understand?

1. I unerstand plenty about computing but am not afraid to ask for help from others if the supposed help is not there.
2.  I understand that even now after all this discussion you have not read my posts properly.
3. I understand that peeps like you need to adopt some forum board ettiquette but as this site does not have such a section how can you poor things know any better.
Yawn.

Jesus Christ, I have just told you what happened with the media section.
Reverse psychology is not you're strong point now is it.

Only later. You could have told me at the outset but you were keener to throw abuse first.  Pity there is no forum board etiquette here.  Yawn 2
