Easyjet...Beware!!

Recently travelled out with Easyjet via Liverpool, where Easyjet have contracted out ground handling to Swissport..We were travelling out with just hand luggage and because we had bought extra leg room seats we were entitled to an extra bag each. To cut a long story short the young inexperienced ground staff challenged me re the 2nd bag and I gave them the lesson on second bags that clearly their employer had`nt..

   I was let through to the gate but my wife(identical bag to mine) was challenged and to fit it in the  `tray`..at 6.15am not at my best it wouldnt go at first attempt..Young lass full of glee told me it had to go in the hold 40 pound please and she flounced off to get the paperwork. She obviously didnt know me..when she came back it was in the frame and came straight out!!..gutted was`nt half of it.

  Once on the plane I told the cabin crew who smiled and said Easyjet have now quietly incentivised Swissport staff to see how many cabin bags they can get in the hold and they each get a cut of the proceeds. This is precisely the practice Ryanair gave up doing for obvious reasons.

   I have made a number of requests to EZY to ask if this is true and they have refused to make any reply on this matter. I take that therefore as a big resounding yes they do!!!

Totally agree bedouin. It is very annoying when travelling with a bag well within the limits to see others let on with clearly oversized bags because the ground staff cannot be bothered to check.

I presume you are meaning me??........If you had read it, the bag went into and out of the frame.Ergo it wasn`t too big at all..what`s your point??

Obviously in this case the bag was more or less the size required. However recently I have seen bags double the allowed size being loaded into the overhead lcokers on Ryanair from Edinburgh. This is not only unfair to other passengers but if people abuse this system then I am sure St Michael will cancel the relaxed approach which benefits everyone.

Many years ago I flew to Glasgow from Birmingham on business, can't remember which airline but possibly BMI. My briefcase fitted in the metal size test thingamy perfectly well on the trip up but coming back, on the same day with not an extra sheet of paper in it, I really struggled to get it in. However it did go in and the check in lady said ok, but I couldn't get it out again! The zip tag side had gone in first so I couldn't even open it to remove some contents. As I was struggling to pull it out the whole frame was lifting off the ground. I started laughing so much I wasn't good for anything and eventually several guys played tug of war and extricated it for me. I'm certain they had a different size test frame in Glasgow to the one in Birmingham!

Hi Pandali

  Not touchy and yes still a defender of the budget airlines. This is why I`m concerned they might be sullying their reputation. Ryanair did precisely this for a long time, and then realised it was doing more harm than good and abandoned it..That I applaud.Now I`m concerned that Easyjet are trying discredited tactics and some people might end up with a lesser experience than they should..

   Just trying to help people avoid any pitfalls if at all possibe, hence the reason for the post

No problems at all with them(staff wise )never even checked our hand luggage,only problem was the sh.1te legroom with the emergency seats and the rock hardness of them,not a patch on Ryan Air im afraid having just used them 2 days earlier it was fresh in my mind ,not looking forward to flight home

Unlucky Roar..You went out on one of the old A319`s, which I`ve been on and you re right about legroom and comfort. We were lucky and went there and back on one of the brand new A320`s which have been fitted with the new slimmer recaro seats..Much more legroom in the ordinary seats, extra legroom is like business class and the comfort level is way way better, but they get used on a Wednesday.

  Glad you got an improved gate staff as well...have a good holiday
