The next time one of you go into Mercadona could you have a look at the porridge for me please. I bought one last time I was over and want to see if I can source it here. The name was something like Koell from what I can remember, or it might even have had a ‘u` in there some where and no e. Name and manufacturers would be appreciated. Yes, I know it`s sad but I love porridge.
Over for Christmas and New Year this year and staying in El Cotillo. First time there as we normally stay in Corralejo. I know it a bit early yet but any recommendation for restaurants, bars, events etc. appreciated I can`t wait. Thanks.

best restaurant in Cotillo = Marisma Bar The Sea horse/The Sports
Bar but there are others that are reasonably friendly

If its of any help, you can get Quaker Oats porridge in a tin, at the large Spar opposite the bus station in Corralejo.

Porridge Oats is Copas De Avena, or Avena, in Spanish  All Supermarkets sell Quaker Porridge Oats in tins and most have their own make.
I have it every morning as it's Natural with nothing added, unlike Kelloggs Cardboard Flakes etc.

I buy mine in a brown box from Hiperdino, called "Eliges" . It's cheaper than Quaker.
You can also buy bigger see-through bags of it which is a bit more coarse, and takes a little longer to cook. It costs about 3 or 4 euros a big bag.

Presently eating Mercadonas porridge made by Bruggen....500g for 1euro...first class

I bought this particular one last year when I was over and it was the best I've ever had. Hence trying to find out what it's called etc. I have goggled all the names I can come up with like what I think it is with no luck. I think it's either Scandi or German but might be wrong. Will try Eliges when I'm over woe10, great start to the day with a blob of natural yoghurt. I don't like honey but up to giving honey rum a try :o
That's three to have a go at Johnrgby2 thanks, can't wait!

The British shop on Montecastillo  has a wonderful range of porridge. They peaked at 11 different varieties but not sure of the current status. We've switched to reporting on their range of tinned and frozen peas which is quite extensive.

Hi GSD girl, just come back from Eurospar, Las Palmeras, Corralejo.
Think I've found the one you want?
Called - Kolln with 2 dots over the "O". Copos   -copos de avena, this one says suaves. Natural - 100% integral. Made in Alemania i.e. Germany by Peter Kolln.  Blue cardboard box with small window. About 2.50â,¬ for 500 g. Says comes in various flavours.

Website on the box is www.kolln.es (without the dots!)

Hopefully you may be able to find some? 8)

They have Kolin in Hiperdino also.

GSD Girl

Thanks OMR that's the one. Off to see if I can buy some in U.K. Johnrgby2 give it another go. It really is good for you and with the right topping a healthy tasty filler whatever the time of day. Mr. GSD is into blueberries and bananas at the moment. I make mine with water he likes it made with milk.

Unfortunately you can't get fresh Blueberries here. Only ever seen them in packets which are processed and full of sugar, same with the Cranberries   :o

Ole Man River

Fresh fruit, loads of choice in the Fruit & Veg shop on the top road by the bus station Corralejo, near Popalin. Think they have cranberries & blueberries?
Quality! 8)

OMR proves herself again as a 'personal shopper'!

I also bought some fresh blueberries in Mercadona the other day - scrummy!
When these type of fruits are out of season I buy a selection of frozen berries from Padilla Spar - great for smoothies and cooking.

I love porridge but in the summer I make a different breakfast with oats; the night before mix some oats with a fruit yoghurt and leave in the fridge overnight, or make a smoothie with added milk, add some oats and stand in the fridge for an hour.

I use the frozen fruits from Padilla in my Nutrabullet with fresh fruit and veg from Lidl along with their chilled mixed juices and low fat yoghurt..
