Does anybody know why there were so many flight delays out of the airport today . Our flight to Gatwick was nearly 4 hours late , along with many other flights .

Haha, that reminds me of Coniston post office closing at lunchtime because it got too busy.

From the Cpt on last nights Easyjet flight to Lpool. It was caused by French ATC having a new computer system installed and actually making the situation worse, his words not mine.

Reply from Easyjet;-
Dear ,

I am very sorry for the inconvenience that has been causedfollowing the delay of your flight EZY7168 to Liverpool on the 19th of December 2015.

I would like to reassure you that this kind of situation is exceptional, since easyJet does everything possible to meet the expectations and needs of our passengers. Whenever there is a delay of a flight, we understand that this causes disappointment but the safety of our customers is our primary concern.

Having reviewed the details of your flight, I can confirm that the delay was 2 hours and 39 minutes upon arrival. This event would not be considered eligible for compensation under EC Regulation 261/2004 as it applies only for delays over 3 hours.

We have provided a document on our website entitled ‘Notice of Rights`, which clarifies the policy surrounding EU Compensation.

More information is available on our website:

On the plus side I had a nice Hot Choccie and large muffin out of the refreshment voucher.

Fatherted - the captain certainly put his foot down on the return journey on the flight didn't he..........

Snowdrop yes he did, but  would'nt you if you had a plane full of passengers with a possible delay compensation bill of â,¬400 px arriving at your doorstep/inbox? It also became apparent that there was a bit of queue jumping amongst the airlines that night, obviously working together to restrict the possibility of any claims. Also what a lot of people have learned is it is'nt the departure delay but the arrival lateness that counts.

More departure delays at Fuerteventura airport today. My son was due to fly home via Stansted this morning, but already well past departure time and no sign of boarding. That's with Ryanair, and although he thinks a flight to Leeds left on time, another couple to EMA and Bristol are similarly held up, one Easyjet the other Ryanair. Given than my other son had the same problem three days ago, it seems to be becoming a bit of an issue!

Hence why this compo culture is a bad idea when mixed with air travel.

Who can remember the Tenerife air disaster of 1977, when a KLM captain who was under pressure to get away, wrote off two 747's & all but 61 of the people on board both aircraft at Los Rodios? OK, there were several other factors at play, but aircrew should not be under pressure t chance it and go to avoid financial pressures

Even this penny had dropped with the EU (finally), who privately admit that the `free for all`system they administer does need reform. But as with everything out of Brussels it will take to sort out though. Utterly ridiculous that you can get compo many times more than you paid for your ticket. Then people complain that the flight prices are high  :'(

In the meantime some Captains will feel under pressure to `get home` before the witching hour. Some may also feel pressured to go when they should remain on the ground. Lets all hope they keep it safe in 2016...

Meanwhile best wishes to one and all
