There`s an online petition trying to get the import taxes/charges for low value items sent to the Canary Islands either abolished or reduced:

In order to take the matter further (asking questions in the Canarian Parliament) they need to reach 25,000 signatures.  So far they have 20,000+.

Been hit with this tax before, so have added my signature to the petition.

Let's hope they don't increase IVA [VAT] to make up lost revenues

If they reduced the tax to a small amount, they might actually get more tax, as more people might actually use an online delivery service to get products. If this happened, its possible that more couriers/post people would be required, so employment for such workers could increase ( who pay taxes as well).

At the moment, I personally bring products with me in hold luggage so pay no tax to the Canaries for this, but  I would prefer often to send for items by post/courier and pay a fair amount of tax.
