Twice this week the Guardia Civil have been breathalysing drivers, at 8am , heading out of town , on the road to Tamaragua , level with the Football Ground. Imagine if your a tourist who got drunk on your last night, and heading to the airport, for an early flight. Or if your a local going to work. Like I say NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE. If you do, you deserve the consequences.

I go that way to El Cotillo, what time do they knock off and go on dustbin patrol  ::)

By 8.45am normally, this is the Guardia Civil, not the  Local Policia, who police the dustbins. But this is a far more serious issue than dustbin times.

Certainly is - I believe there's a â,¬1,000 minimum fine. You only pay half if you pay up promptly, but it's a fair whack even if you don't lose/gain points because there isn't yet full cooperation.

And remember that the limit here is 5 thingies rather than the 8 in the UK. Sorry, not sure what the units are, but you can get done here for a level of alcohol in the blood that would be perfectly legal in the UK.

Ok  i think i've got it. No flip flops, but hi viz jacket a must with a spare pair of spectacles in the glove compartment. Don't cross any straight lines on pain of a massive fine, stick to orange juice as even a pint puts you over the top, keep your eye out for the numerous speed changes even on straight roads, also keep your eye out for police cars hidden behind palm trees, stop at every roundabout even if theres no other vehicle within two miles of it, lights on when you drive past tamaragua or get pulled up( who knows if thats still a goer) and don't park near the dunes where there is no yellow lines or notices telling you not to.

And finally when i get to my place leave the rubbish rotting on my premises attracting vermin instead of putting it where it should be....in the communial bins.

Not quite right on the roundabouts but, other than that, just about spot on.  Another model citizen in the making.   :D

Looking forward to the day I tick the "One way only" box when booking flights to Fuerte. [:)]

Well we are getting use to 5 thingies here in Scotland.
Best bet is to buy a breathalyser for the morning after - can't guarantee to be 100% accurate but more than good enough to make a judgement.
Personally I think 0.5% is more than you would want to drive with. All the experiments I have done show that according to the readings I would be well within the limit, but there is no way I would consider driving when close to 0.5%.

No you don't need your lights on at the moment, when going past Tamaragua, they took the signs down when they stopped work on the new road the last time. Perhaps now they have started work again they may introduce the need for lights on.

Ivemovedon

I'll put them on anyway just in case.

..unless since i was last over theres a new traffic violation for having headlights on in the daytime dazzling other motorists.( 1000 euro fine of course )

you wouldn't believe i loved the place would you?.

Thanks I was going to ask this question, but grateful for the answer, although like HTT I`m going to keep the headlights on...Wonder what would happen if there was a sudden huge outburst of crime??..no doubt the Guardia would pass all that on to the Polica National and concentrate on Tam..far richer pickings than burglary et al..

Ok I've got it too wear flip flops and get them stuck under brake and possible Crash ( hopefully no fatalities ) no hi viz have a puncture at night/dusk get out of the car to change a tyre ( and get mill out of it ) no spare glasses cause I'm blind as a bat and sat on mine now drive home cant see anything and etc. etc. Cross single white lines cause I can and get milled out by on coming traffic or better still cross one in town and park on other side of road so when I pull out im against traffic and cant see what's coming, will not go on about drink self explanatory oh speed limits are targets not a maximum so what speed kills it wont be me ( I hope) Oh those speed traps why cant they just have Gatso like at home? and reduced visibility I don't need lights on I can see

Putting out your rubbish in the evening is obvious make more sense when temps a high during day and a dumster sitting full all day ( PHEWWW) when only what you use during the day you will not have rotting rubbish sitting in your home its just a daily ( or I should say evening daily ) ritual to remove to the dumster. Its thinking about the greater good not the personal I want what I want.
And yes I too Love the place but also respect it. its laws and Customs.

As your quite happy to have the rubbish festering all day in your place attracting flies and vermin and i'm not maybe i can drop mine round to yours instead of the communial bins. As you respect the place's laws and customs so slavishly and i obviously don't its a win situation for both of us.

But then maybe you just talk a good game like some others on here.

P.S. A certain A. T. Werp was on his soapbox preaching the wonders of the islands traffic policing not too long ago. It now transpires while most of us are clean in that respect, he's been racking up a list of motoring offences as long as your arm. Priceless. :-*
