Mr Boo Boo

Gone Fishing

I first read that as 100,000 Euros    :o

That's only £71.40     Man up and pay it Spike    :D

Tamkid

Hi Spike, you no better than that spike, your wasting your time posting something informative (even slightly) on this forum at the moment.

Brightspark

Give me 100 thanks and I'll pay it for you

Been there got that T Shirt...would be even more informative to know whereabouts maybe to warn others.
Mine was El Matorral which I posted on here because I later found out that there is a local Guardia down there who spends his life watching for innocent motorists falling into this trap.
See people (including Guardia) do it all the time though.

Two motor cycle police were knicking people for not stopping on a stop sign when they left Tamaragua this morning.

Cross the line, you pay the fine.
A single/solid white line is the same as a Double Yellow in the UK. Why can't people understand that  :'(

Ivemovedon

fully understood but we don't have double yellow lines in the middle of the road.

A double yellow line in the Uk is not the same I don't think - it is to do with No Parking so I assume you mean Double White Line
I think the problem is that the law in the UK is different in that
FRom the Highway Code...
Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.
Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10 & 26
As I understand it a Single White Line must NOT be crossed even if you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road.
I didn't know this...yes I probably should have and DO now.

bluefox

many year's ago i remember my instructor telling me that when you come upon a solid white line/s, treat them the same as you would a 6 ft solid brick wall, i've never forgot that.  8)

Tamkid

Good post Spike, I no a bit more now than I did before, could save me some money.

For example: In the photo, if you wanted to park in that space outside the shop, you would have to go up the road, and back down on the correct side. If you park in the space facing the wrong way, the police will know you crossed the line.  â,¬100.

You can see it a lot in Caleta with rental cars.

Yes that's exactly what happened to me. In the UK you could do this legally as per the Highway Code.
Agree this is a good post which hopefully will inform other unsuspecting motorists. I've certainly learnt my lesson!

I was told that the solid white line at the side of the road should not be crossed either as it signifies a cycle path. If you cross it to park, as many do on the coast road, you could also be fined.

Snowdrop

If that is true cockney - I am pretty sure the road along the dunes in Corralejo on both sides have solid block lines, that's a hell of a lot of potential fines.  Would be keen to know if this is correct of whether they just identify the edge of the road?????????

decho

Didn't know that one! From what I remember the coast road through the dunes have single white lines at the sides and there are dozens of cars parked there.
Also the Guardia who frogmarched me to the airport in his car to get money to pay him drove the whole way from El Matorral to the airport with one set of wheels well over the white line at the side if the road.

They identify the edge of the road, but also have a meaning.
Normal is solid white.
If blocked it's a warning for side streets.
Yellow is no parking

Spike On Q

You lot have gone waffling on about this and that and no one has cheered me up yet.

I think I got done for speeding on the road between Las Salinas and Caleta this morning at 8.15am!

wavell ave

what is the fine for speeding in general spike ?

Tamkid

Drive carefully, remember only careful drivers are welcome on our island, so by your own definition you are no longer welcome. Bye then.

RVEEE

Double white lines in the UK signify a 'no parking' zone as well, so no change.

So the CG are picking on the guilty motorists again eh? Terrible state of affairs, are the doughnut shops shut this time of year?
