OK, so I'm sitting in my house in Fuerteventura, and I am freezing my Butt off. Everybody I know is either ill, or has been ill from the cold. Please sign the e-Petition to stop the Government from taking the annual WFA away from us.

Ex pats should continue to receive winter fuel allowance. It is part of their pension rights. Payment should NOt be determined by country of residence, but by eligibility for UK state pension.
As is child benefits payments to children who do Not reside in UK, and claimed by a parent who is NOT of British Nationality. eg East Europeans.

DONE
I shall send my electricity bill to the relevant Minister and Prime Minister. The graph at the bottom will show them just how much heating we need here in the winter to stay warm!

I have also signed as no matter what is said by some it is an entitlement and in most cases been paid for up front after 40 years and more in Taxes during working life.

Winter Fuel Allowance ?
Where do you buy heating fuel on Fuerteventura ?
Or do you have a special english pub where they sell it per pint ?

Spike On Q

Just watch the wheel on the electricity meter spins as you try to keep warm, that represents the fuel quotient you question. We're in the middle of a flu epidemic here and need to keep warm and dry. If we don't have the money for proper heating people die just like they do in the UK

Having kids is an option. Unfortunately getting old isn't. I'm not elligable for it yet and it wouldn't be a life saver for me even if i was, but i know that for some even in fuerteventura it means a lot. Fact of the matter is its easier for the Tory fat cats who will never have to rely on it in their old age to cut this rather than some of the less deserving benefits to less deserving people. They truly make me sick.
You got my vote.

OAPs have paid tax so do not forget about the other benefits Elder residents get, include on the petition free prescriptions, free bus passes.

I don't think the weather really is that bad to be honest. Yes it's a bit cloudy and cool, but compared to Scotland in January? No contest....it's more like a typical Scottish Summers day.
I think living out here all the time softens you up a bit!

aph1

Just cant get my head round this to be honest! What will all the comfortably off pensioners who can afford to retire to the sun here or spend months at a time here want next?

Errrrrrmmm air con allowance when its too hot!

Let people who need it have these benefits ....in truly cold old blighty and those who move to the sun put an extra jumper on when its UNUSUALLy Cool like now!

Ivemovedon

Be careful what you wish for. Once they've stopped those abroad getting it, they'll chance their arm and decide to stop those south of watford getting it. Then once they've sorted that it'll be decided it doesn't get quite cold enough in the highlands any more due to global warming. Eventually they will decide to stop it for everyone everywhere. If you get it be thankful, if someone else gets it be thankful for them. You all paid the same in ....you should all get the same out no matter where or what size house you live in .Where do you think the money will go if they stop it? Will they up the fuel allowance to those living in the UK. Dream on. It'll end up as woe said paying for benfits issued to people who REALLY don't deserve it. I'm more than happy to see expats who paid UK taxes most of their lives get a little something back out of the system.

sognet

this what happens . the torys know one thing . what ordinary working people hate more /is eachover, that's why you get some people hating pensioners .who live overseas getting the winter fuel allowance , these pensioners who have paid in all their lives ,deserve this payment. I sujest to the spiteful bitter and twisted tory voters . instead of moaning about pensioners getting a few pounds . some who fought for the uk , unlike the jellyfish making these comments .concentrate your one cell minds on the bankers perks .

Increase the basic pension, then they can scrap the fuel payment. At least it ensures all pensioners benefit. I know of a couple who work and earn between them £40000 and because the husband is eligible, 63, they collect £200. I will sign the petition but doubt wether minds will be changed

Archer

Not sure you would get it at 63. Where are your facts coming from?

cbeal

. Go check the government website please do not question the facts, anyone born on or before 5 july 1952 qualified for the 2014 2015 payment, this changes every year. It is so there is no discrimination between men and women. So at 63 a man does not qualify for pension buy qualifies for the payment even though he works. Hope you understand now. And by the way he would get free prescriptions as well cos he is over 60.

Archer

Darn it. I missed it by 5 months! Prob have wait another 6 years, like the pension...

I thought they already were increasing the basic pension to £155 per week across the board. Might as well keep the fuel allowance as you sure as hell won't get any more for losing it.

cbeal

Archer you will get it this year as your birthday is on or before 5th July 1953, if you are resident in UK. As to the New Pension only those who reach pensionable age on or after 6 April 2016 will qualify, those who reach pensionable age on or prior to 5 April 2016 get the same as those qualifying now, and I believe not everyone gets the full amount, again its contribution dependent.
