Which British foods do you miss?

I know there are a very few "British" shops that stock our favourites but generally speaking, which British foods do you miss or at least are hard to find?

For me:

Caramac
KitKat (with milk chocolate - the supermarkets just seem to stock the plain version these days)
Camp Coffee ( hold back on the jokes!)
Tinned Haggis (ditto)
Potato Scones
Treacle (I'm not calling it black treacle - treacle is black)

Shredded Wheat . it's made by Nestles, I think, and their other cereals are stocked well but not Shredded Wheat - a mystery to me.

Porridge oats, now that it's cold in the mornings, I would like a plate of porridge! Must investigate a local equivalent, I am sure there is one.....

Most of the supermarkets stock Quaker Oats in cans.

They also sell bags of oats (avena) which are much cheaper.

Missing porridge...why not try Gofio, The locals make into a breakfast porridge type with hot milk, hot choc or coffee, packed full of goodness and cereals! I love it!

It used to be mint sauce and horseradish sauce for us but you can even get those now.  It's just tea bags and instant coffee these days. 

I know the British Stores in Corralejo has moved but where to?  Even google doesn't seem to know!

The British store moved - if you picture where it was opposite campanerio - it is behind where it was but on the main road running round the edge of the dunes.  On the same row as clarkies bar, tiffinany's and the roundabout up to mercadona supermarket.

Excellent, I wondered what to do with Gofio, Mrs J didn't know and I couldn't decide if it was sufficiently porridge like....Mercadona here we come!

Gofio is very high in carbohydrates and isn't digested easily. It's not advisable to eat too much of it..it's more of a maize / flour and I certainly wouldn't substitute it for porridge.
I always take my son over real butchers sausages (put in case at last minute and as RA don't have heat in the hold as they don't transport animals they travel very well, or so he says)

I mean sausages made in our local butchers, he does about 10 different kinds..it says which farm the pigs came from. All made on the premises. Not frozen ones or supermarket ones, they actually get bigger when you cook them. Yummy sausages.

Gofio may be high carb, so a good morning breakfast boost and made with several cereals that are high in nutrition. I think its a bit better for you than high fat Sausages....butchers own or not! Why not try it instead of bringing over frozen food from UK. I do buy English products but dont miss out if cant get them as I do the same as I did in UK......Eat local produce and goods! No airmiles or freezing etc.
There are some fabulous sausages made here for gods sake so dont need to cart them thousands of miles.
Jock try it and you can also make fab biscuits etc with gofio. My 83 yr old Majorero neighbour is one of the healthiest ladies I know and eats gofio with warm milk every day for breakfast, as do a lot of the locals.

Brit Shop at the Monte Casitllo Centre in Caleta has 9 different types pf porridge - perhaps one of the best selections in the World

alph1 I don't bring them over for me as I never cook while I'm on hol, nor even a bit of toast.Coffee and tea are the only things I make  We use the local bars for brek. It's for my son and grandson who love proper English sausages, just a treat for when we come over  I can't deny them that now can I

They do live in Fue btw and eat local produce all other times, I just manage to find room in my case for a few treats (esp for grandson) when we come over every couple of months

Might be better with sultanas or blueberries mixed in (which is how I have my cold porridge at home - made with cold milk)

I've lived here for more than 20 years and enjoy local cuisine, however there are certain foods I do miss. Hence this thread. Seems perfectly valid to me.

I  agree Colin, it was just an example. I have dried apricots with mine or whatever fruits I have in.

Sorry Hev didnt mean to get on my high horse but sometimes I just get irritated by what people get people to bring over in the food line cos most stuff is available in some shape or form here or people can make or grow things...THE SAUSAGES sound yummy by the way 

I even know of one acquantance who gets the relatives bring Greggs pastys out....for gods sake theyve already been sat in the bakery since the early hours without a 4 hour flight here on top!

I must admit I do miss fresh parsnips here so am attempting to grow some but I wouldnt dream of asking family to pop a couple of pound in their suitcase lol (and before you mention it Spike I know they have frozen ones in the British shops but they are just not the same)
